rabbits will also randomly appear in woodland areas, and usually spawn behind the player
and "spawn" is the most important point...
animals do not "spawn" until Henry enters the correct area, so oddly, no animals from a distance doesn't mean animals won;t spawn when Henry's up close
use this map to find the "hunting spot"s, and when you get the spawn location pop-up notice, then pause, crouch, and move slowly in a circle - watch for spawning animals - increase circle radius to spiral outward

When you want to go hunt, you need to be as quiet as possible.
Same with robbery or putting poison in kumans food.
Other animals seem to only spawn in their designated hunting spots.
Some times it seems like the forest in empty, and sometimes, every where you turn something is moving in the distance. But that's if you're lucky and probably standing right on top of one of the hunting spots.
bugs I Had Bugs Bunny for supper and the local innkeeper thanked me for the meat supply.
maybe on your end there's a bug... i dunno
Game has countless bugs and issues and crashes to this day. KCD has not been fixed in years.
Dude, this isn't a bug if you're the only one this happens to. I've played the game for 4.000 hours, and I've never encountered a forest without wildlife. Yes, sometimes you don't see a hare for two in-game hours, mainly because there is grass and they are a bit small, but the Prey quest has you hunt for six hours. That's enough to shoot more than 10 of the buggers. I think my record stands at 18. But I had levelled hunting before, so I could practically walk up to them and shoot them from point blank range.
