In normal difficulty before i modded, i did manage to get away after what seemed like 20 reloads. But half the time my goal wasnt to get away, my goal was to try to avoid as much damage as possible while getting away, which turned out to be not as vital as i initially thought.
If im not mistaken, you may have missed that double tapping Shift key (tap, tap hold) puts the horse into a full gallop, while single tap is only a canter. Canter does not drain stamina, a full gallop does drain stamina, both Henry's and the mount's. Trying to get away using only canter will not work.
Maybe bad luck.
You can press shift twice for a double sprint.
I think that Razmir might be right. It's likely that you just pressed shift once and were therefore cantering rather than galloping. On horseback, there are three paces: trot, canter and gallop.
and you have completely given up on learning how to succeed...
then after mounting the horse, go into "Inventory" and then "Sidekicks" and unequip the horse's saddle - Horse Speed increases like 5 points and you should now have no difficulty
however, you should know that the "Run" quest is setting the pace for the game,
and your frustration will likely continue to mount
There's a learning curve, and for someone who refuses to look at tutorials until finishing a game once, it's a tough curve. (I learned about the master strike cheesing only after finishing the game.)
Play KCD for KCD, not for some other game. It's a different experience.
Because that's a canter. You need to hold W and hit shift twice to gallop.
And no you're not going to outrun them, they will keep pace with you, but that's not a big deal. You push your horse to gallop until stamina gets really low, drop it to canter, and then gallop again and by that time you should be at Talmberg.
I got this on my first try and that was including a 10-second stretch where my horse refused to gallop for some reason and kept rearing its head (I assume scared by proximity of an enemy, but idk). So if I could get it first shot with that hiccup in my way, you should be able to clear it no problem.
