Knockout was working, suddenly not?
OK, trying out the game after a few years away to see if anything was fixed from when I last played it. Also because of all the hype KCD II is getting.

Issue I'm having is that whenever I come up behind ANY villager I don't get the knock out option. I was working, I've knocked a few out before, then suddenly it stopped working.

Did I press a button I shouldn't have? Is this a known bug? What am I doing wrong?

EDIT: And of course seconds after I post this it works again. I have no idea.

Think you need to be crouching to get it. Were you maybe not crouching when it wasn't showing up?

Indeed. Also, if Henry has a bow in hand it wont show up either
Isn't it like pickpocketing which you first need to learn from the Miller? Otherwise you don't get that option.

Absolutely certain about pickpocketing, not so much about knocking someone out. For kills you need a dagger of course.

I was crouching. I had no weapons. It just seems to be a bit finicky about the angle of approach maybe? That or the guy was going through some sort of set movement that doesn't allow interruptions? I don't know. It mostly works now. I was grinding the prologue a bit to buff up.

Oh well, no matter. I now remember one of many annoyances with the game that caused me to stop playing. Namely, I'm in cloth, I have sprinter and 7-mile boots, and I still can't outrun guys in heavy armour. Never did understand that.

Yea.... there's no running out of a fight - it's dumb

There is a skill check. in the early game, I've had guys wrestle out of a sneak KO.
Also, when doing the Hans Capon rescue, I save scummed the crap out of that scenario trying to KO the cuman leaning against the tree. and the KO option doesnt work on him if Henry is standing too close to the tree. A most tricky situation, but i finally got the timing down.

Don't recall running away being much of a problem unless I was playing Woman's Lot. If Henry's agility is trained up, you should be able to get away by foot, but with a horse it's much easier. What's even better is spotting the ambush before they spot Henry, then i dont have to worry about trying to outrun them and i can pick the fight or avoid it on my terms.

It's better in KCD2 though - it's not random but certain NPCs may fight it and then you can still counter it via a certain timed combo

I have the problem of trying to knock someone out but it instead kills them

No, you don't have to learn it, you can knock people out even in prologue.

Same here, whenever I try to knock out someone WITHOUT a dagger in my inventory that person dies. Reload and placing the dagger back in my inventory helps. This is one of the most stupid bugs. Some say that very high Strength might affect it somehow, but even if it's true it still makes little sense.
