In God's hands (small rant) *spoilers*
Sorry need to vent a little.

This is the worst quest I had so far. The custodian is an asshat and Joshanka an unthankful wench.
She tells me the custodian is an asshat, then she is invited to the banquet. I ask her about the custodian being obnoxious, she says at least he was here (not doing anything but hey who cares while i was on the Bahamas having a great time right?) and i should mind my own business.
What? SHE complains about this moron and then tells me to shut up about it?
This woman is a tool and this custodian is a moron, they both deserve each other.
Rode my ass off to find this priest in the woods to help Phillip, made it by only 2 or 3 in game hours left, and then this custodian waltzes in, invites Joshanka and if you don't have 17+ Speech he puts you in jail for saying the truth.
I think I will just drop that one, to hell with these people.

So, you're gonna leave some Skalitz survivors, your neighbors, to die for no other reason then because the custodian's a jerk? Yeah, he's a jerk, but he's not unreasonable. As for Johanka, she can be severe, but that's because she genuinely CARES. Pay close attention to the room where she hangs out; it's SWAMPED with the sick and wounded. She and Brother Nicodemus are the only ones actually doing anything to help. But they can't do it all by themselves. So swallow that pride, and turn the other cheek; the wounded Skalitz survivors need your help.

I know i know...just needed to rant a bit. I also noticed you can talk to the custodian, tell him it would impress Joshanka if he would be generous and provide some supplies and then the banquet-talk check is much easier..so yes...but the first tme these events happend I was just: what the hell is this?
*sigh*

And thanks for answering in a civilized manner, I expected bashing of the mean kind for this :P

People are way too far from being perfect since always and will still be for forever, in that time-period then... Talking about quests in general in KCD, some had so much travelling and were so disappointing... then some shorter ones were great. Still remember my laugh with the Huntsman making the bird's call/noises in the "a bird in the hand'' quest hehe.

Yeah, yeah, wounded survivors. They make great training dummies for leveling your pickpocketing. What are they going to do, run to the guards?

everything to do with the monastery is rather bland (or outright boring)

and strongly out of balance for seemingly minor mishaps, (such as if you happen to guess wrong and get jail time)

the easiest path through KCD is usually by using Persuasion or Bribery (typical for RPGs)

thus the near impossible difficulty of trying to Persuade the Custodian surprised me as well

Johanka makes a very important comment during this that explains the whole absurdity of this situation: "Well he was here for me this whole time, while you weren't." She's showing the very real nature of women who are vulnerable and emotionally exhausted being easily manipulated by men who show them any ounce of affection and/or protection and providing for her physical needs. Johanka goes off on you about him at first because she doesn't want you to know or get involved with the situation, as she feels a little guilty her self and embarrassed, then reacts strongly when you are forced into it.

It's one of the many reasons why this game's writing is the best. Though I understand how frustrating it is, game mechanically speaking, that you "try to do whatever is the morally correct thing to do" and then end up in jail for it by unexpected cutscenes with minimal choices, particularly during timed quests.

That's what makes the game so interesting overall. You don't have all the power, other people will do their own thing, will keep their beliefs, will do stupid things and you can't do a lot about it except trying to help, take what you're given and hope for the best

yeah, getting jailed for 24 hrs for 2 words was a "fun" surprise.

Objectively, Henry was able to get sick people better treatment, and it felt good to help them.
As for rewards for most of the missions in KCD, they tend to be underwhelming. Not all, but many. So in a way, it's not that big of a surprise to what happened. As the saying goes, "no good deed goes unpunished", apparently someone took it to heart and executed it in game. So kudos to the one who thought this up. Life is unfair, so they added a little unfairness to KCD

As with a couple of earlier replies, I don't feel this something to get offended over, even though i did feel slapped in the face when Johanka told Henry "he wasnt there" and even more so when he wound up jailed.

Don't worry. Johanka's story gets much better if you do the Woman's Lot DLC. You'll feel really compelled, especially after finishing this quest line.

The rewards from quests in this game largely come down to seeing how the NPCs interact and what their "fates" are. Most of it is just money for Henry, but for the player the true reward is the writing and completionist feeling. And some of this money is very useful in the "kill no one in the game" achievement run, since you can't just go kill bandits or Cumans to solve all your problems.

I started with the DLC...and broke it off in the mine. The silver bag couldn't be picked up, but I only noticed this AFTER the painful 20min to get out of the mine again. On steam this DLC is very badly reviewed, so I stopped and continued with Henry. I liked the first hour or so, the chores, doing a lot of stuff FOR people, defending Bianca from the "wolf" etc, but the mine really was frustrating. Maybe it sounds dumb, but playing a "strong" women in KCD that is not obnoxious or mean as hell was a fresh breeze :)

The reason people don't like A Woman's Lot is because:

1. It forces you to play as an accurate woman in medieval times, not as Henry which is very different
2. It forces you into a 2+ hour segment that cannot be skipped or cancelled once started
3. Most players accidentally start it without realizing what they're doing, especially when they just started the game and are clicking every option that appears when they talk to NPCs

I've done it many times and never encountered any particular bugs, including not being able to pick up the pouch. It's great, and definitely one of the best DLCs any game has ever made.
Oof, sounds like this quest is testing your patience in all the wrong ways. Johanka flipping the script like that—complaining about the custodian and then defending him—feels like a betrayal of logic. And the custodian? Jail for speaking the truth? That’s next-level obnoxious. You’ve clearly put in the effort, riding out to find the priest and cutting it close on time, only to be met with this nonsense. Dropping the quest might be the best move for your sanity. Sometimes, walking away is the ultimate power move. :laverne:

Yeah when he said he wanted to invite her to a banquet I picked the option to suggest having it at the infirmary. He had me thrown in jail for the night.
I should have had an option to give the piece of crap a real reason to throw me in jail. ;)

yeh - that's what the rant was about - Henry needs a 17 in Speech to win the check

(psst: Bard potion can help)

it's a funny consequence, and was very unexpected when it happened to me...

... but the game is like that
First time I did this quest, I didn't realize it was timed or that there was so much involved in it. The second time I did it was after helping with the whole monastery reconstruction/inferior stone quest, so the custodian liked Henry at that point for helping to solve that issue. I had no problems talking to him when he comes to invite Johanka to the banquet.

Otherwise, I think Johanka is a worthless b*tch. She asks for help, but then scolds Henry for going off and getting the ingredients/information/supplies necessary to help (even if I don't do anything else but those tasks between talking to her and returning with those things). She scolds Henry when I try to ask if there's anything else he can do. She scolds Henry even when he comes to report that everything is taken care of. She just scolds, scolds, scolds and is generally an insufferable cur.

And because of that, I've refused to even touch Johanka's part of the Women's Lot DLC. Screw her. Let her get burned at the stake for heresy. Henry's had his own problems to deal with, trying to stop more raids and destruction. He doesn't need her crap on top of it.
