Poor performance
Hello, i've picked the game recently to wait for the sequel but i'm really disapointed in the optimization of the game. I'm running the game on 4070Ti Super paired with a Ryzen 7 5800x and 32gb of ram but gets really low performance. In Rattay the fps can dip to 50fps with a lot of micro stutters (i can see the frametime graph being all over the place).
I tried a lot of things i found on internet, like changing the cores utilized in the a user.cfg file, lowering some options but i don't really want to play on low settings given the setup i have and how old the game is (7 years already, time flies...).
So, is there anyone else with a Ryzen 7 5800x who can give me the performance he gets so i can compare ? Anyone with a solution to this problem beside the tweak with the user.cfg file ?

The user.cfg file is the best way that I have found so far, but I just started messing with it a week ago and am still playing around with different configurations, I have seen drastic increases in both fps and visuals though.

I suggest taking a bit of time to tinker with it while in game, you can run the codes while you are in game through the ~ key to see how they impact your performance and visuals, then dial them into the user.cfg as you see changes.

I've been using a bit of this guys post and tinkering around with the codes they listed for the last two days and have been seeing some nice changes.

Thank you, i'll try out those codes and see what performance i can squeeze out of this damn game ahah

Sure thing man no problem, happy to help, and I hope all goes well for you!

If you do manage to figure out anything additional please do post it, I'm still learning myself.
On ultra settings, Rattay at night in the rain can tank even modern machines. Try setting shadows and object details a level below. Those are major performance hogs (for minimal image gain). If you ask me, playing the game on ultra is not worth it anyway. High already has massively better performance and still looks great.

The 2nd game is more optimized according to the press so far. Guys are even playing on Steam Deck. However, they can't talk about the 2nd area yet, which is an even bigger city (Kuttenberg). According to Warhorse, it would be the most optimized area. And that they've learned their lessons and pulled off a few tricks (line of sight blockers, NPC code overhauls, etc.).

We'll see.

I'm playing at max graphics on 4k apart from Shadows and Anti-aliasing with 120 FPS average.
-----> Shadows setting is turned down to 'High' because my CPU is bottlenecking.
With it at max graphics FPS drops significantly to below 50
-----> Anti-aliasing is set to 'SMAA 1x' because of the same CPU bottleneck, but it also looks way more crisp on this setting, on higher settings it comes off more blurry and tanks performance for nothing.

This game is CPU intensive, well for me anyway.
I'd suggest a Ryzen X3D CPU

My setup:
Sapphire Nitro 7900XTX (24 GB )
Ryzen 5 3600 @ 4.1 GHz
16 GB DDR4 3200 MHz
1 TB NVMe
