Most taxing and useless settings?

What settings would you deem the most unworthy of visual change? I found physics and particles to be really useless but I also use all the drawing distance sliders on max with object quality and shadows on max. For context I am playing on 1440p with 3070 but settings should have impact all across the GPU spectrum

If I remember correctly, during my first playthru the game was basically a slide show in bigger battles and 'turning the corner' in Rattay. So searched for settings hogs in Cryengine and found physics and shaders and... were the biggest hits on fps. Just turning these down in big battles made a big difference, and during the big battles eye candy is not so important.

Just remember to turn them back up when exploring, the game is beautiful. Pause before turning the corner in Rattay rather than experience that freeze.

Also, not sure what the truth is about editing user.cfg file [search the forum for info] but it did seem to help, but may only be placebo.

Is there any actual difference between shaders and physics on high vs ultra high?

ultra high would be the most pointless settings in this game.
it's rather a meme, like the " can it run cryses " settings in crysis.
so no real benefit

Both Shadows and HDTextures cost a lot of performance, especially on 1440p.
but I'd rather reduce the resolution or giving up the HD textures pack than getting rid of shadows.

Maybe reduce the quality a bit. There's barly a noticable difference between very high and ultra. shadows can be set to medium and still look decent.
You might also lower the reflection and illumination settings if you're up for the fps hunt.

I'm using a 3050 combined with a R7 5700x,play on FHD and high to very high settings and would get about 80fps if I wouldn't use vsync.
So it's stable 60fps for me, even in the cities and I'm totally fine with that.

You can't reduce hte resolution on a 27 inch monitor.

Sure, but only when you get up close to something with an HD... And if you haven't played with HD tex then you aren't missing anything, right? The game looks fabulous with normal texs.

Not really. Mud and buildings and people from a little bit afar or super close look bad. I used to play with HD textures on 1080p

I found this bar chart pretty useful at honing in on more hoggish settings. Shader quality and Shadows topping it out as well as: Object Quality, Water Details, and Object Distance making a three way tie for another set of more demanding options.

I consider object distance to be of worth but water decreases performance severely in many games, like Red Dead

Artifact popping can halt that immersion up quick and yeah, it can be silly at times when devs put so much lacquer on water fidelity, especially in games where you can't effectively swim at all such as KCD and RDR.

What setting is the one that determines the quality and speed of mud loading?

I think mud (and horse dung for that matter) are pre-baked into the area itself, so it could be a world geometry deal or they may be objects themselves. Either way having an SSD (for Speed) and/or toggling the Object Quality around (for Quality) would be choice.
