TIL: Regular books give reading XP when you open them
Everyone knows skill books give reading XP, but did you guys know that potion recipes as well as regular books you can purchase from Scribes also give XP?
Useful for leveling the reading skill in order to secure the perks.

Even reading shrines on the road will help too

So how about that achievement where you need to finish the game while being illiterate. Can't I read any skill books then since they increase my reading xp?

You can't read any books unless you've learned to read or selected the 'scholar' perk. The moment you've learned to read either way, you can't get the achievement anymore. As far as I know there is no real achievement to finish the game as an illiterate, only the 'trial and error' achievement for rebuilding Pribyslavice while unable to read.

In fact you can't finish the game without learning to read if you have the Hans Capon DLC, as he will force you to learn to read in that storyline.

Ah, yeah. Mixed it up with some other achievement. So I should stay away from all things related to reading then if I want the "trial-and-error" achievement, even skill books? I noticed that I can sit on the bed and begin reading a skill book now at the beginning of the game. I just never did it in fear of that increasing my reading skill.
