This. Or you're using a mod that causes the problem.
To Heal yourself in the Prologue:
1. talk to Henry's mother
2. You can also purchase, or otherwise "find", Marigold Potions that will Heal you 30 points over a short time.
After the Prologue:
1. You have to activate the "Sleep" option near a bed in order to sleep (or "Sleep and Save"), and Not just "Sit" and pass time (using "T").
2. Marigold and Lazarus potions both provide a Heal-over-Time, and can be found at various vendors and sometimes as loot.
This should cover the entire game's options for healing and sleeping.
Note that there is a limit to how many hours you can sleep per day.
- preferably: reload a save before the bug happened (I know, you'll probably lose a lot of progress)
- alternative: continue the game, focusing on the main quest (My Friend Timmy in your case) and hope the bug goes away after you've progressed or finished that main quest. There are some time-sensitive parts in that main quest so maybe that caused the bug and it may disappear after you're past that part or even after you're past that entire quest.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, it's a really strange and rare occurence you happened to encounter
It is my understanding that mods can introduce bugs. Esp. old mods not updated for the latest version of the game. Once those bugs are saved within a SaveGame, you can turn off the mods, you can wipe the mod folder clean, whatever...and the game will still be bugged. And everything going forward from that bugged SaveGame is in jeopardy. Sometimes it shows up right away, sometimes it doesn't show up until later. Sometimes it snowballs and the whole game becomes unplayable.
I suspect that 90+% of the bug reports are manifestations of this issue.
For instance, many players played the game early after release. And they modded it. But they didn't finish or even get very far. So they quit.
Now they come back and rather than wipe everything clean, install the latest version, and verify gamefiles, they simply pick up with an early SaveGame (chances are one that gets them safely to Talmberg) and/or all their previous mods, and then wonder why they are having problems.
Not saying this is the problems. But people who never played the game before 2019 and who use minimal or no mods, don't seem to have these problems.
