WTF Rattay guards!?
I got like 500h on this game, and this has never happened to me once: I ran through to Rattay, passing the Hanus’s keep, near the market and the guards tried to arrest me. I got jail icon all sudden. I wonder if one of them tried to stop me to check me!? I honestly was not sure but damn, I’m way past 100h+ after end game, I maxed out like all stats, 18 charisma. Random check should be non existent because technically I’m the Lord, story is already unfolded, they should all knew me.

It's not random checks. Hitting any citizen or guard in town when you ride horse is a crime. Don't ride your horse like you own the place.

Never know that, never happened to me up until now. I played like 500h+, I used my shadowmere like at least 100h. Hmm maybe you right, I’ll test that again to see.

Rest assured that's the case. I wondered many times why my rep is low in Rattay, Sassau etc. That's the reason and it makes perfect sense. It's not a thing you notice at first, nobody regularly checks their rep levels, neither do I. But any time you hit someone and you hear them complain, go check at a church if you have to pay indulgences. Try it.

Yea maybe you right. I noticed that I always have to pay 100 grosench at church, sometimes 150, but I never bother why. I always paid because I remember that I read somewhere saying that paying it will minimize chances of me getting checked. At least that was in early of the game. Well I guess that I’ll be careful from now on, lol I always hit them on purpose because I thought that hitting them never hurt them anything.

I am forever going through Rattay at full gallop and am actually very good at anticipating the pedestrian course and direction from a distance and avoiding them in advance or braking suddenly. It doesn't always work though due to sudden object pop-in, resulting in me hitting somebody and my rep decreasing.

It makes sense really which is why I usually trot, or canter at best when in town.

Hit them enough times with a horse and you can kill them. So slow down in populated areas and try not to hit anyone, even little nudges can cause some damage.
It's a good tactic against bandits. Just ram them with your horse until they die, maybe throw some stabs in.
Also 100 Groshen is the minimum and you can always pay it. It's when it's more than 100 is when you need to be worried.

Make sure you do not have a weapon drawn when in a town or village that has guards. Even if you are on horseback, walking/riding around with a weapon in your hand can trigger a guard. If you don't happen to hear them verbally warn you (because you're zipping by so fast) they can interpret that as disobeying their laws and go all "Barney Fife" on you.

I never knew paying indulgences was a thing...

Me neither. Never had any prompt to interact with those donation boxes.
I wonder if that is something added by one of the DLC's I do not have???

It's been there since the beginning afaik.. maybe you get some strange sensation of burning when in vicinity of a church? :D

Never been stopped like that or fined for hitting people with my horse...I usually stop dead when I see that a possible collision is gonna happen. But what chaps me is that pedestrians will walk right into my stopped horse and then berate me for not knowing how to ride.

Makes me want to ride into them...at full speed.

That’s the thing, I got like tons of hours and I always hit people on purpose with my horse, I always thought that they are ok with it in this game. My reputation never suffers much, I guess it’s because I picked the perk that helps raising the rep rapidly over time, don’t remember exactly what it’s called. I certainly sure that I never killed anyone with my horse, I guess that even at this point (I’m completely done with the game), I still learn a new thing about it. Great game.

If you hit them enough times you can. I got a fine for crippling someone once.

devs said the AI is self developing through game, it becomes unpredictable the longer you play
