blunt strike, help

Started yesterday and for the sake of my life I cannot get the blunt strike combo down. Stab into left swing is no problem, but seemingly it's impossible to follow up with the bottom right swing. My character either finishes the sudo combo with a topswing or right attack. I tried doing the combo slower but it still fails. What am I doing wrong? I'm using one of the appropriate weapons (short sword), but it seems impossible to swing from the bottom right mid combo.

This is my go to combo. It is very effective and easy to pull off. It then leaves them open for a stab to the face (very deadly), which you can then turn into another blunt strike.

I find you need to pull the mouse down a bit more to get it do a lower attack. Other than that there is nothing else to it. Just keep practicing it till you get it. Most likely you are panicking or being overzealous with the mouse movements.
