There is also no difference in quality of potions. So either you make it or you don't. And if you do, it is always exactly the same as the one(s) before.
Very easy to make too.
You have to tlak to half of the village and administrate the potion intake though.
P.S. Also, make sure you complete objectives on talking to Mattias and 'investigate the plague' before going to the Monastery for help. Sometimes, it results in deaths of the villages even if the diagnosis and cure are the right ones.
No worry, there is no lawsuit against quack from dead men.
I did it while trying to accomplish the "Trial and error" achievement (which forbids you to learn to read).
BUT you have to know (or look it up) the receipt for the cure. Since alchemy is doable without reading.
Putting the alchemy aside, the only trouble with no reading skill is that you cannot help to identify the illnes from Nicodemuses book. He has to identify by himself which takes him an awful long time (24 hours). At this point, I believed I could not save everyone in time, thus failing the Plaque Doctor achievement.
To my great surprise, I still saved everyone. So the achievement is a little forgiving.
I did all the other steps with the utmost precision and haste, I must say.
You have to listen up to all infected villagers to know the symptoms and you have to tell them correctly to brother Nicodemus. You have to correctly identify the illness (or let him identify it for you) and you have to make the cure.
Brother Nicodemus can make the cure for you also. But it would take him more of the precious time. I believe it would result in failing the goal, but I didn't try that, so I'm not sure.
Quality of the cure doesn't matter if it's the right one. (If it's not the right one, the game doesn't tell you that and you'll administer a placebo instead.)
Then you have to distribute the medicine to all infected people and wait several days to see if it worked.
Don't take breaks, don't sleep and ride your horse even at night. If anyone sleeps wake him.
Also the Pestilence quest is activated not by talking to anyone but by traveling through the Merhojed area. So you can accidentaly start people dying and not noticing it. Then everyone will die even if you do everything right. (been there)
There are several good guides for you to look up. But you'll manage.
Initially I thought it was antidote. But noooo....the dev had to put a special potion page there.
this quest does get sort of buggy, but generally the failures after "i thought i did it right?" are related to not giving the antidote to everyone quickly enough
i think there are 4 (?) people you need to dose, and the one that sometimes doesn't work for me is where the old man is standing (or the woman ?)... ??
for some reason my interactions to deliver the potions was not completely registering with the game, so i had to retry a couple times before it worked out (i think there's an alert when all done maybe?)
note: i think you've gotta interact with the herbalist (and Johanka?), and their patients, for it not to fail
