Repairing equipment what is it?
I can't repair things that are more damaged. The seller says they are too damaged. A friend of mine plays on a console and they repair even the most damaged items.

You can repair your items up to a certain point. A blacksmith can repair many things up to a certain point. For armor you need to go the armor smith, and same for weapons. They can restore all items no matter how damaged. If your maintenance level goes up you will be able to repair items that are more damaged. But when colored red your can't do that anymore and you'll need to visit their vendors.

If a merchant says that it's too damaged to repair, it means it's too damaged for HIM to repair. I've had it before where the Rattay weaponsmith can repair armour up to a point but you have to go to the armoursmith to repair more severely-damaged items.

You repair items once they go below 70 that's why you can save money and be on your toes.

with lack of information from OP, this would be my guess as well

i tend to rely on blacksmiths for sales and repairs, and the "too damaged" from a blacksmith means "try (armorsmith / weaponsmith)"

as a test, i just reloaded a recent skirmish clearing and found a clothing item (ordinary tarred jacket) with health (?) of 3/100 (97% damaged)

running to the nearest tailor, he had no issue repairing the critically damaged item back to 100 - they were even willing to charge me more for the repair than the item was worth...

...but hey - you can't buy some of these looted items

Not all merchants will be able to repair your equipment. For armor or weapons, you need to visit a smith. Rattay has three smiths: a weaponsmith, an armorsmith, or just a general blacksmith. Any of them will work. The blacksmith's shop is just to the southwest of Upper Pirkstein, while the armorsmith's shop is in the Rathaus, just beneath the Baillif's Office. The weaponsmith's shop is southeast of the Rathaus.

This is the best comment and also sounds like an NPC.
