What exactly are you having issues with when lockpicking? I only recently got the game and so far even the supposedly "hard" locks haven't given me any trouble.
Having said that, I did see a lot of older posts from years ago with people complaining about it as well. So here's a general question to everybody: Was lockpicking made easier with a patch at some point? Even when not staying on the sweet-spot the whole time, the lockpicks don't seem to break and the minigame doesn't fail either.
It does not change the mechanics at all, just adds a visual cue which helped a lot.

I haven't done it myself yet, but I have looked at the ingame instructions. So I can well imagine that it could become quite tricky. Of course, I could always fall back on keyboard and mouse temporarily. However, I don't like switching back and forth between different controllers during the game. What's more, I've only played with keyboard and mouse for almost 40 years and only recently discovered the gamepad for me. I'm still a long way from being really good with it, but I'm still having too much fun with it - mostly because it's still relatively new to me, I guess.
There are Mods on Nexus that stream-line the lockpicking and make it overall a bit easier.
Game had that issue when it first came out. Glad to see 6 years on people are still angry that Henry is bad at things he has no idea how to do.
I no more break any lockpick, even in very hard chest/door. And im half the max level of this perk
