Feeding my mutt
Honestly i love overfeeding the dog, it lowers the obedience right?
But i got like 7 levels just after killing a deer and feeding the dog with everything lmao

You should avoid giving the Dog too many of these without a break in between:
> Food
> Praise
> Commands

Also the game has a few exploits for this.

If you are running low on available food to give dog, do it near where there is an NPC you can Talk to. Soon as the food for dog drops to ground, go talk to an NPC and have that last a few seconds. Then when done you will see the food is still laying on the ground, yet you got credit for it (if the obedience went up, which you can easily see using B key).

Be careful if you unlock the "Sic" perk for Hound-Master, because it can be easy to want to Hold X Key to get him to keep following you or to come to you, and you mistakenly end up having the reticle on an NPC and end up sicing the dog on them. As that is unlawful to do, obviously. So please be careful with that.

If I'm not in dire need for him directly by my side, I give him the command for "Free" so he will still stick close by, but is free to check out the surrounding area on his own.

Best source of free food for Mutt would be Dried Meat (since it doesn't expire) and also if you go to the Bath-house near The Mill (Theresa) there are chickens. Helps to do that at night and be sure no one sees you (be mindful of people walking on that main dirt path to and from Rattay) and simply come up on a chicken, look down and punch it. Once you have a couple Chickens (don't over-do it) go to a spot with Food Pot (there is one just outside the West entrance to Rattay) and cook the chicken so it lasts 2 days instead of 1. Free source of food for Mutt. If you find yourself in need to buy food for Mutt, try buying Cooked Horsemeat. It's very cheap in price compared to many other options. However Dried Meat always comes in handy, for both you and Mutt.

I try to keep my commands of any kind to him when just walking to and from some place; to around 15-30 mins real-time apart.

You can upgrade his sense of smell after you able to upgrade Hound-Master perks such as Hunting and Smelling Enemies/Ambushes. However I do unlock Sic first, just in case I need to use it. It will come in handy if facing multiple enemy at once. However Sic early on will only delay that enemy, not kill him.

Tbh, i got my houndmaster from 5 to 15 in the prey questline, with hunting hares and deers.

So, i honestly dont know why i should do this, overfeeding the dog doesnt make him flee

Well sure, thats fine, I wasn't sure how far along you were overall.

But it's just going to waste food is all. Once his obedience is @ 100, it's not difficult to keep it there, or at least in the 90s. But yea once you have him hunting, food isn't much of an issue. Course it can weight quite a bit, but if you are cooking it and selling it, or using rare meat for a quest, by all means...

It may help to take a break from letting Mutt hunt, so you yourself can get better with a Bow by hunting Hare and Deer yourself with a Bow.

Also if you happen to kill a Pig or Cow near a town, as long as you don't loot the meat, it will stay there with the meat remaining in that condition until you loot some or all of it. So keep that in mind as well.

If you do kill chickens, keep in mind they might not respawn until you exit and relaunch the game.

Personally as my dog is lvl 20 now mostly from overfeeding, hunting bandits and fleeing villagers, i kill everything on sight mostly, making the infamous perk be valid, is quite the nice roleplay tho.

Well even earlier on in the gameplay, yes you can probably exploit this quite a bit as a means to level up Mutt (aka the Hound-Master skill); especially more-so true if you've taken the time to get Mutt at or very close to 100 Obedience; then even if it does go lower from spamming "Praise" and "Food" (as long as the food does not reach too low, or at 0%, because his level will drop quickly as Mutt is experiencing a round of food-poisoning from tainted food); however the game does not tell you this is happening with Mutt if it happens, it only happens when the Player eats such food with 0% or very low % to where it could trigger food-poisoning. A light case of it can pass naturally with time though. In any case, yes I have not tried it too much but most likely if Obedience is very high or at max right now and you spam between "Praise" and "Food"; I would not doubt that this could easily level up Hound-Master before Mutts Obedience drops low enough to have him running off and such.
