How to level up bow and sword skill or combat ?
I hate this game combat T__T but I already bought the game collection. My quest tell me to kill the two bandits and I can't beat them. The game requires us to level up those combat skill to literally able to win a battle and they should give a quest or warning at the beginning to level your skill /combat before going venture then I should have not grab even those early game lol and just train train train... -.-I just started and I didn't even do a lot of quest yet but I can't beat two bandit because I am too weak and running away not an option....I get hit in the back and so I can't run because my stamina depleted.

Play something else in the collection you bought.

OP, you don't need to level up your combat skill in order to beat them as long as you apply the lessons taught to you by Captain Bernard during the combat tutorial. Those lessons are the foundation of all your combat skills, so paying attention to both the instructions and what he actually says is extremely important. It isn't so much what Henry knows as much as it's a combination of what Henry knows and what YOU know. The combat tutorial was the lesson, and what you're doing now is the practical exam.

you can level bow by hunting or go to Ledetchko; doing the bow contest there with Vatzek also levels bow (and can give you some nice coins).

Your combat skills develop step by step and if you reach lvl 7-8 agility you already can do some stuff. If you can't beat the 2 maybe do some side quests and train with Vatzek or go hunting. Selling the cooked meat of deers is btw pretty profitable at the beginning.
If you are not good at combat you need a shield and at last learn perfect blocks and use focus change while going back. Maybe try to kill them with bow on horse.
Melee fight itself is not pressing wildly buttons (you only go out of stamina) but to react at the right time i.e. with a perfect block and then a quick stab. Try not to get out of stamina. A fight is often a patience game who has the better nervs.

If its the two bandits you need to kill to find gingers location then approach the bandits and when one rushes up to talk to you start backing away. You can lure him far enough away before he starts combat so you can take him out one on one. Then deal with the next one.

Then go practice with Bernard more.

This game you need to find time between doing the main quests to get training done. If you don't then the game starts getting really hard.

Cheese the game or look up online how to level a certain skill fast. Since the game heavily leans towards your combat stats, leveling them is crucial. You can level alot of skills by cheesing the combo tutorial with Bernard by not doing the combo he asks you to do and to just wail on him like a madman.

Training every day can level them at a decent rate, as can the tounri & bow contest both are free & can even win you some gold.

If you still have problems beyond that I would suggest looking around for some of the combat over haul mods as there are several.
Don't get me wrong the game is great but a few of them make it a lot better.

Last I'd say don't be afraid to fight dirty.
Whenever possible I would suggest fighting on a hard to reach incline using a bow to snipe.

There are several fights in the game that can be cheesed this way as a quick arrow to the face will end them fast that are a nightmare otherwise.

Whenever I start a new game and end up in Rattay, first thing I do is go back to Talmberg. If you run to Neuhoff you can a free horse that reduces ambushes. Just make sure you always 'park' it outside town so you can use it again later. There is a huntsman and forest to practice hunting/bow skills. At first it is terrible but after few levels it does get easier. And you can earn a huge amount of money as well. Beside using bow I always do lock picking and stealth as quickly as possible. This way you have access to all merchant chests, unlimited money and no need to buy anything. Save all coin to complete one of the DLC missions.

After some time I head back to Rattay and go visit captain Bernard, dual Hans. In the bow contest, switch to better bow you bought/stole from the Huntsman and win his bow (best when starting). After that enlist at bailiff and go hunting with Hans, choke/fight Cumans and get a few hares (optional). Then Ginger mission starts, but now you are equipped with some decent skills. If you already know where he is hiding you can skip parts of that mission. If completed you can do whatever you like. And it unlocks vital combat training with captain Bernard, that is mandatory for fighting with melee weapons and defense.

Don't follow the main track but instead explore the map and learn other things. Eventually all combat will be easy and in some cases hilarious, especially using stealth and bow. Take you time to play this game, it's a lot better to progress slowly and enjoy your life as Henry.

Where I went wrong, and I think a lot of other newbees go wrong as well is we start the bailiff mission, not realising that we will then be locked into 2 more time limited quests after that; so have no time to get in more training.

You have to get some decent training in before the first bailiff main quest mission if you don't want things to get real difficult.

This is where I think went wrong. I followed the main quest and end up taking me to the farm I have to kill the two bandit to get ginger location from burner people.

My training only basic, I didn't train or kill anyone yet lol and the captain said he will train me more next time .

Anyway ,Thanks everyone for the tips/info.

I went back to Rattay to train but the captain not there. I think he still in the farm lol. I level up my bow though, it level up so fast killing the sheep

For the Bow, just use it. Such as hunting Deer, Rabbits. By the time I had to go to the woods with Sir Hans, I was already very good with the Bow. Sometimes you have to do this and walk away from the Story for a bit to level up stuff. The training is natural though since Henry is young and was not already trained with weapons.

For things outside of Combat such as Sword, Axe, Mace, Unarmed; you can easily level these up over time easily when you find Sheep, Cows, Pigs. However it will help more to do unarmed punching on them, with Bow & Arrow or Sword its too easy to kill them. Unarmed punching will just knock them out for a bit. But for anything of that sort, you must save before doing it, in case someone sees you and reports it.

Thats the catch. For us newbees, we don't realise the correct time to stop the main story as Bernard once you do the training part of the main story sends you to the bailiff. If you go to the bailiff you are locked into 3 time limited quests, one after the other, with no room for training in it.

Why not? I played the game like that on my first play through. You only dart from point A to B quickly when it appears to be something time sensitive. Why don't people understand that right away when playing pretty much any open-world story game.

Because the bailiff part of the main quest has you walking around the town with the guard and as part of that there are automatic time advances. Next thing you know you have to go hunting with Hans and then you are sent to the farm and then to find ginger.

You can win any fight with bow and arrows easily. Stealth archer for the win.

Well yea, I'm talking about.long before this though you should have taken time to do it.

You get a full set of armor, various swords, villagers bow and about 40 long distance arrows early in the game when Stephanie suggests to dress up like a Sokdier in order to get through the front gate in Talmberg. Many people don't do this because they don't know how to lockpick that chest in the tower quick enough without getting caught. As the easiest thing to do is grab the horse you showed up with, take that to the gate area and then tell the guard Barnard said it was OK for you to leave. This is the lazy way to getting out of there
