I replayed and was a kind person. I did massacre a field of sheep though and felt bad afterwards.
in KCD, Henry will always lose Reputation if he Knocks Out or Murders anyone - even if it was impossible for Henry to be seen (no witness).
However, Henry can Break-in/Steal as much as he wants, as long as he's not seen.
Getting seen gives Henry a Bounty - guards will approach, citizens may run and tell the guards - a bounty can usually be fixed by paying a fine or spending days in jail.
The Reputation Drop for Unwitnessed Assault usually happens overnight and is supposed to represent the uneasiness that the local town feels because of the crime, and it only effects Henry because Henry is the only Player Character.
And unfortunately For KCD, (as Rambo mentions), a Low Reputation becomes tiresome very quickly, basically having the tabletop RPG effect of a Low Charisma - prices are higher and haggling is harder.

What about stealing? I just started and it seems there are quite a few quest around being thief. But its killing my reputation. Any tips?
