Hardcore mode isn't enjoyable...
As title says... Hardcore mode simply isn't fun or enjoyable. I almost always prefer the hardest difficulties in games, and roguelikes with permadeath are often some of my most played games. This being an open-world game with no ability to autosave outside of sleeping or in-game items is genuinely terrible. The amount of progress I have played and then been forced to replay over and over again makes me no longer want to continue this game. One random ambush while on a path through the woods now forces me to travel 20 minutes by horse to turn in a quest before going back to Uzhitz all over again. Just me ranting, but I sincerely hope that this does not appear in the next game, as it is really ruining my experience playing this for the first time.

If you look a little ahead while traveling you dont ever have to be ambushed, you can always prevent them from attacking you, you can even jump over the logs on roads with your horse etc., havent been ambushed for ages.
If wished you can then turn around, get off your horse and fight them at your own terms.
And the saviour schnapps can be made so easily too.
All alchemists sell the belladonna, the nettle is everywhere, for a few bucks and a few minutes of time you have a few hours of gameplay saves available
I got pulled off my horse by some random Cumans in the forest during the Stud Farm quest. I didn't know you could make your own drinks in game... Hardcore mode automatically disables all tutorial messages, so there are probably plenty of things I am missing just because they aren't explained in game.

Then don't play hardcore mode. It's not exactly a harder difficulty anyway. It's mainly for immersion like removing HUD elements, fast travel etc. The difficulty is exactly the same as normal mode.
I disagree with this. The difficulty isn't the same as normal, because in normal there are tutorials... someone told me in this comment chain you can make your own saving items. No where in game has that been explained or shown to me so far. The difficulty is in this being my first ever time playing and the mechanics not being properly explained in game through actual gameplay.

I had a lot of fun with negative perks, too. Especially sleepwalking. Imagine doing Sasau monastery quest without an ability to exit and suddenly waking up across the river.

I like the negative perks! Its really just the lack of autosave and tutorials that is ruining it for me. I can't stand having to replay 30 minutes to an hour of gameplay because I accidentally ran into the wrong person in the woods and didn't have any more saves...

How do you know since you haven't played normal?

HC does not need mods. People use mods because there are things they want to change about the game but most of us are happy the way it is so we do not use certain mods. Is it right that the game be made the way you like it but we have to use mods to undo the changes made by the devs to keep you happy?

At the risk of sounding like a broken record ... Learn To Craft Potions. The ingredients are common as muck once you know what they look like. I have about 40 Schnapps right now with ingredients for about another 200. I have the autobrew perk so it takes me about 5 seconds for 1 potion. I save fairly often, sometimes every 5 minutes or so.

Is HC fun or enjoyable? Yes, but it can be frustrating sometimes. It does make the game more difficult but this is not a hard game, most of the time. Maybe HC is the wrong name and it should be called "A bit harder" difficulty. I like that combat damage is increased but turning off fast travel does nothing, I did't use it Normal either. Not having a player position map marker is not hardcore it is just annoying sometimes. I don't use quest markers at all, better without them and more hardcore. A HC map would have been nice, one that actually looks medieval with places, rivers and main routes marked rather than the google earth thing we have today. Thing is there are things I would rather be different but I play the game and enjoy it for what it is knowing that if I want something different I should download mods or make my own, doesn't take long.
I actually really agree with what you're saying here. I enjoy having to navigate myself based on the local landmarks and having to genuinely explore the world. I didn't know you can make your own save items... that hadn't been explained to me yet in game, and Hardcore automatically disables all tutorials. The combat system definitely feels rough, but I knew that coming in to this.

I think my frustration simply comes from a lack of knowledge about the game mechanics and the game not really explaining them through general gameplay. I don't want to mod the game, mainly because its my first ever time playing it... feels wrong to not even get to experience the game as intended.

I'm going to keep playing, and I'm definitely going to cheese the "Save and Quit" in the menu when I NEED to save after making progress. I didn't even realize I could do that until after already making this original post lol

Because in normal they give you tutorials that are automatically disabled on hardcore... says it right in my game settings "No tutorials in Hardcore Mode". It wouldn't be such an issue if these mechanics were explained in game... but it seems like things like brewing save items isn't.
"More realistic. Recommended for players who are familiar with the essentials of combat and survival in the world of Kingdom Come: Deliverance."

You were warned.
Skill issue.

You ain’t gonna get sympathy here seen quite clearly from the comments. If you don’t like hardcore don’t play hardcore it’s there as a challenge and hard on purpose.
You don’t even need mods , the game saves everytime you rest and get a full wash from the bath house and failing that save and exit is literally and unlimited save.

You chose to engage in that ambush knowing full well when your last save was and knowing full well you’re playing in hardcore, I don’t see the issue with the game here only you

Edit: it’s highly recommended you play the game on normal for your first play thru , it’s pretty evident hardcore mode is for experienced kcd players

Go to normal mode
press `
type in g_showhud 0
then you can play without the hud similar to hardcore mode but dont loose fast travel ect.
I like Hardcore mode I'm doing merciful and virgin achievments now on hardcore mode to get every achievment I have 63 now :D my main skills are speech pickpocketing and lockpicking, hand combat also, I killed Runt using Poisoned blade btw, and I have all negative perks too so it's the hardest mode I can get, had to wait 2 hours after sleep because there's nightmares debuff

why do i need to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ install mods to enjoy this game, braindead take
By that logic, why do I have to put extra toppings on a pizza to enjoy that pizza.
Because then it feels like you're just smothering an overcooked pizza with toppings just to cover up the taste of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ pizza, using your analogy
It might have been a poor choice to start Hardcore mode play-through before learning the basic game mechanics using Normal mode first. Self-inflicted frustration, I would say.

Perhaps this will help. I uploaded a video explaining how to make schnapps and showing where to get ingredients in large numbers. I hope it helps. https://youtu.be/3dk6V3d3Rc4?si=NUrH87WhunMYH3g-

Sure... but that is standard boilerplate for most "hardcore" or "realism" difficulties. My issue is the lack of gameplay mechanics that are actually explained through gameplay. Orienteering through an open world with nothing more than local landmarks to guide my way is fun... having to replay 30 minutes to an hour of gameplay (mostly being travel time) because the game doesn't explain that you can craft save items is not.

I don't want the fast travel lol... I'm cool with everything EXCEPT the lack of autosave. I have never played a modern game where their hardcore mode relied solely on manual saving exclusively... this shouldn't feel like the original Resident Evil lol.
