Does it only bother me that you can’t finish the game?
I know this is an episodic game and all but why don’t they just release the continuation even as a dlc and they instead now do a separate game?
It just makes no sense to leave this game as it is which is not being able to finish the main quest. Don’t want to give any spoilers but if you played it you know what I mean. It just suddenly ends.

I like the ending and I think it's very poignant.

The whole point of the story is Henry's transformation, not getting his sword back. It's about Henry reflecting on what kind of person he is and who he wants to become. It's about Henry learning that the world of politics and war is much bigger than his personal grievances. This is touched upon both during the epilogue in his conversations with Hans, and the DLC in his conversations with Johanka. He also discusses it briefly with Theresa, during one of their dates in the post-game.
Same reason FF7 didn't release rebirth as a DLC, have you never heard of the concept of a sequel before? KCD 2 will expand on the mechanics of KCD 1, something that would not be possible to the same degree if it was just released as DLC. Plus, KCD 2 is an entirely new game, not just a story expansion, so you'd be paying the same price regardless if it was a DLC.

The game sets itself up perfectly for the sequel, a lot of games do this? Even films and even books!
IIRC, they kind of went wild. It was going to be episodic, then it was 3/4 and an episode, then they went and made an entirely full sequel from what they had left.
i hated the ending of KCD - i think it was a completely frustrating and insulting move on the parts of the devs (it felt a lot like a middle finger).

i still love the game, and i am completely impressed with many other aspects of the game - but i hated the ending.

and even if the cliffhanger thread from KCD is Completely resolved in KCD 2 (which i doubt it will be) - i will still and always hate the ending of KCD.

it was simply unnecessary for any reason - other than "they will hate us for this".

How much you wanna bet they end KCD 2 on a cliffhanger ??
they might lean in to the hate, ha ha ha

When a game makes no more profit... they quit spending resources fixing stuff.
Most publishers are like this. CD Project Red is about the only exception and that's only because they have a whole country supporting them and also... they had to save face. Their GOG site pretty much depends on it. Which I suspect is the main reason why you don't see Valve making games, anymore.

You do finish the game though. I hate endings that firmly close the book on the character. Henry's story didn't end per se, but he did help save his nation. Riding off into the sunset for more adventure is the way to go to create a fantastic and open ending story.

Plus we literally get KCD2,.

It wasn't an ending. It was the closure of the "3rd chapter" that was support to roll into the 4th chapter, which should have been released waaaay sooner. But didn't because they completely dropped the idea of episodic releases and took that cut off ending to make a fully-realized squeal.

Well, kcd2 is coming. That should solve the cliffhanger. And probably end on another one for kcd3
