every game that has even a slight leaning curve seems to cultivate the most toxic pompous communities ive ever seen. it pisses me off every time i see a newbie asking a question or complaining that they cant figure something out and the only replies is see are "get gud". thats not helping anyone you only look like an ass.

I get your meaning, I guess you're right about that. Honestly.

Though it is funny: At the same time I was about to argue the other way around: Every game that has even a slight learning curve seems to cultivate the most angry rants possible, like if a newb cannot kill / solve / win from the get go there is a toxic tendency to cry out here and right away ask for a "fix". It has not been always like that. Back in the days nobody would ever thought about that.

So I'll ask you again am I the type of person you're talking about?

Grind stats at the start? Don't YOLO into enemy? DON'T GET SURROUNDED?!

Not only you need git good, Henry also need git good too.

And of course, use Halberds! LOL

Nobody gets mad at someone who posts a question in a nice, non toxic way, in fact you will find the community very helpful.

When people start out with things like "this game sucks" or "why don't they fix..." or "everyone who likes this is a fanboy" they will be met with the same toxicity. Games that require thought and skill are increasingly rare and that is why people who enjoy these types of games defend them, we don't want to play the latest AAAA game, this is what we want to play and we want the Dev's to make more of this.

As for telling people to "get gud" what else do you want people to say? There is no magic wand to wave. I spent hours training to 'get gud" and I would imagine everyone else has too. In order to learn combat in this game you have to practice, and you have to spend time working on Henry's skills. There is no secret to it.

Even after spending all that time to "get good" I know that I'm still not going to dominate battles, especially against several enemies, that's not what this game is about.

Well I have a thread going called combat tips for a newbee and people have been helpful in that. There hasn't been any toxic responses in that.

Maybe the way players ask, helps???

part of getting good is improving on one self to get better at the game.
when I got KC the first time I rage quit and gave up assuming the combat and melee was trash, my fault for not wanting to improve and get better so I did a full run through got better at melee and my complaints went.

the get gud can come off as insulting but to a extent the newer players would have to get better at the combat themselves and asking questions or tips are a good start.

every steam discussion group is a cess pit anyway. surprised we dont have the jester farmers making topics "how did The Sims 3 make KC obsolete"

The only time I have ever told somebody to "git gud" is because the person started an angry thread, with a capitalised title complete with multiple exclamation points, expletives throughout and then rejected the advice of more experienced players.

Those are the only cases in which I personally say "git gud" because offering any constructive advise is often ignored or berated because the angry newbie didn't come for advice; but to vent.

usualy the people commenting why dont they fix this or this game suck is because they are fresh from getting their ass kicked by the game. then they see people reply with "you just suck" or something and never touch the game again

i actual dropped the game because i got stuck in a woman lot dlc and died over and over. idk why your able to enter it so early without warning. ive seen threads of so many new players falling into that trap

The irony in calling the actual KCD community "toxic" (as in those who like the game) is the sheer amount of ♥♥♥♥-posting on Steam done by people who loathe the game and everything it represents. I've never read any posts, and you're welcome to prove me wrong, where someone asks a gameplay mechanic, story, etc, question and gets a "toxic" response.

I think you're projecting.

My experience so far is combat is 'challenging'. I was following the main story and had a part where I struggled to kill 2 bandits. It took multiple attempts. I have been trying to level up skills but most are not even 25% done, if that.

Anyway, at some point a few days after that I was riding down a road and tried to get the horse to jump a log that was across the road. Horse didn't jump, I crashed into log and am now on foot under attack by 4 bandits. I still don't know how I actually won that battle.

I have no idea of the exact mechanics of the character stats in relation to combat but slowly increasing them is having a obvious impact on combat ability. I guess those training sessions are paying off after all.

You definitely want Modified Combat Overhaul - Directional Combat and smarter AI vanilla combat is not very good

It's true that there are many toxic people in this community, but I disagree that good advice is not given. When people ask for pointers, they receive entire walls of text full of detailed analyses on the mechanics.

Probably just some mechanic that you didn't properly understand.
You don't sound like 'that kind of person', just a newb who needs some advice.
