The game is absolutely Terrible (Honest review from experienced RPG player)
I have finished my playthough today (barely made it through) which was heroic feat.

Lets review this.

A. + The most generic story possible with "LUKE I AM YOUR FATHER" kind of plot. It is boring story, a lot of cutscenes that are not breathtaking, not interesting, and are kind of forced and take a lot of time.

++ Voice acting is terrible, there is a 70 year old guy, who talks with 20 year old voice.

+++ Localization is obnoxiously bad. I have played with russian text, and whomever passed this work, has done worse than google translate. From Yiindryh instead of Henri, to Level instead of EXP. Looking at Level 8, Level 135 out of Level 255 tooltip is incredible.

B. + One of the worst UI/UX interfaces ever made, it sends you straight back to 1990s games. Honestly, I never had so much pain using inventory, finding my gear, scrolling through loot. trying to find bandages, torches, and other stuff. Add to this a weight limit (removable with a mod yes) but completely unrealistic time sink to waste player life.

You have to press Q button just to see item stats, because by default it is hidden by another window.

++ The game tries hard to be optimized for console controllers, and does terribly for PC gamers. We have more buttons, the game is not good for us.

+++ For some reason, the game has permanent ugly crosshair in the middle. What is even more flabbergasting, it gets removed when you take out a bow. 9000IQ in action.

C. Time waste. A good 4-5 hours of playthrough is spent in loading screens, sleeping, waiting, traveling e.t.c. It takes so long and is so obnoxious.

Animations. are extremely slow. Try herb picking. Herbalism and alchemy is not fun just because animations are retarded and slow.

The game takes after RDR, in it's desire to waste player time, instead of providing any good experience or content, you are stuck doing pointless chores, or waiting hours.

D. Realism or?

+ This game strives to be "realism" friendly, but it ends up being as far from real world as it can be. Have you ever guys picked up a bow? DO you think pulling an arrow takes 4-5 seconds? Do you think an arrow flies forward with a speed of drunk turtle?

++ Endless slomo in fights, hitting enemies make them block, which turns game into a slomo fiesta. Is it fighting based on reaction, reflexes, and speed, or endless slomo movie?

+++ I have killed several hundreds of humans, and I have not seen a single one beheaded, not a single one cut arm, cut off limb, no organs spilling out. Realism yes?

++++ The game has black screens where nudity should have been. Again trying hard for medieval realism gameplay. Witcher 2/3 have done much better in that regard. You cannot sit on two tables, make a dark medieval story and adapt it for PG13.

+++++
You may not believe it ofcourse, but real world does have internal energy, magic, witches and stuff. Cutting it off does not make your game more real. There are plenty of ancient books talking about "supernatural" powers". Pretty sure Tampliers, and advanced knights all used it.

++++++
The final nail in the coffin, the most retarded perk system, with some perks completely breaking game balance, but most doing nothing of benefit. A hard cap to your abilities and skills at 20, which you can't get above even if you drink a dozen of potions and get certain buffs.

Final score - 2.5/10 (Terrible)

It feels like the game missed programmers for UI interface, missed storywrites for the Story, missed animators for action and combat killings, and mixed general lead to make a quality RPG experience. There were some good ideas and concepts in between but they have been too unpolished and rough and don't make the end product look any good.

Also there is a useless reputation system, but you cannot roleplay anything but a GOOD guy.

TLDR: reviewer basis his stance on the game being bad, with his inability to learn simple mechanics, belives being "Expereinced" with mainstream games means he has a valid position on not learning basic mechanics and the game is bad due to their own dulusions

Longer debunking: and thinks every game needs to be a clone, thinks the game not turning into torture porn makes it "Unrealistic" when the systems are not done for realism but player engagement coherency and pacing, in reality the game does not suck, its one the best RPG's out there and it has a postive legacy regardless of the rhetoric and ++ nonesense here.

It's hard to take this seriously when the guy thinks magic should be in the game.

Agreed. He does make some good points but I found it came off rather harsh.

I'm sure most agree that KCD is not the perfect RPG but it sure is a fresh breath from most of the slosh that's out there. Being different or unusual and having a distinct scope of play doesn't make it bad. It's OK not to like something.

I was really hoping they would release a final patch or a light "remaster" but it's definitely good enough as it is especially if you pick up a few mods.

You are making informed review on a review, out of your own bias, unable to even make the simplest google search. I am the pro player in the most heavily and mechanically demanding game in the world, and you can watch my gameplay online.

Just because you don't know something does not mean it did not exist. Most people could not write or read for the most part of history. For long time people believed earth is flat, and sun rotates around it.

Magic and cultivation has always been a thing, accessible to elites, not to common people. There are plenty of people in our world with abilities and powers beyond your imagination.

That kind of power and knowledge was never shared publicly, akin to how you can never gain access codes to nuclear weapons.

There is a lack of good rpgs in the world, and this one fails to meet the mark of a decent RPG.

It has no good combat, no good roleplay, no good story. Terrible interface. It is mediocrity in every aspect. If people reflect on this they might make something better, but otherwise you are feeding the fuel of bad RPGs production. I have seen a lot of positive reviews for this game, and I am flabbergasted to how low people standards are. It is like people loving MCDONALDS.

Almost had me until I got to the magic part
There's the supernatural quest in this. The drug induced witches one. Plus you have the herbalists connected to witchcraft/exorcism. You have a ghost quest. Another Holy Mary ghost quest.
Do you mean you would've wanted Henry to cast spells like in the Adventures of Merlin TV show?

Honestly, the best part about this game are the raving fans on the forums.

Or possibly anyone who says 'realistic' without intentionally being ironic.

Sounds like a spoiled child overplayed Skyrim. I play this game in English version and don't have any problem with inventory or such, or with perk system. And this is not a fantasy game, it's a simulation of life in Middle Ages, they will burn you on stake for trying magic (thought there is a miracle could happen - if you kill Johanka in Skalitz, she will be live and well in monastery later, same goes for custodian. Isn't that a magical enough?) ))

lol... Be careful with using the word experienced: You aren't the only person who plays games and everyone has their preferences... This game has sold millions of copies and was successful

Conspiracy theories about magic being real? Unfounded claims about being an experienced RPG player while simultaneously calling for all RPGs to be formulaic? Utter lack of awareness about the game's combat system? We're either being trolled, or this is one of those individuals who's determined to hate the game no matter what.

Guy also mentioned he played in Russian. So he's Russian. They have had a huuuuge problem with us lately. I wonder how much that influenced this "review"
