Band of Bastards: Kuno Keeps Dying
I'm on the third battle by now, and each one has been a complete chore, but this has been the worst. I'm in the middle of the river, and no matter which way I go, Kuno just runs into a group of enemies and dies. I chase after him and try to defend him, but I can't keep 3 guys off him at once while I'm also defending myself. I'm not even close to dying the whole time -- I feel very overpowered in combat. But I just cannot defend Kuno... sometimes he dies within 10 seconds. Everyone else in the band gets knocked unconscious immediately too. I have tried at least 20 times and he just keeps dying no matter how hard I try to keep him alive. Something feels so wrong. This cannot be intended. What am I doing wrong, and how am I supposed to get past this?

I figured it out based on the fact that everyone else was getting knocked out so fast. Before this patrol, I did the Ring of Bacchus quest. I got the ring from Dangler by knocking him out. Only, I didn't do it stealthily. I thought it'd be seen as the rough group just playing their game, but everyone attacked me back.

Anyway, I knocked them all out and took the ring from Dangler, then everyone woke up and drifted back to the camp. Nobody mentioned it or attacked me or anything -- seemed like "no harm no foul." So I let it ride and went into the third patrol. Didn't realize that every band member started that patrol with basically zero health.

Reloaded an earlier save, didn't beat the hell out of everyone on my team before the patrol, and it went off without a hitch. Who would have thought?

Touche.

Ring of Bacchus is kind of sensitive quest, I remember doing it and then rest for several days before the big battle.

Now that is some play testing right there. Good on ya.

Try to keep aggro on Henry - aggro from every enemy - bump them and poke them - keep blocking - keep moving - move backwards to draw them with you and Kuno's team will attack them from behind.

If they are trying to attack Henry. they shouldn't attack anyone else.

Go for maximum armor (maybe aqua vitalis and buck's blood) , know Master Strikes - Keep on Blocking for the win (master strikes).

The river crossing ambush can brutally hard on Hardcore, especially if you're trying to keep the band from falling. If one of the band falls unconscious, there's a good chance they won't pick up their weapon upon regaining consciousness and will thus be unarmed in the final fight.

After reading the comments, I'm so confused as to which battle this is. It sounds like the daytime ambush on the river, but I've never had issues with that fight. But it also sounds more like the one I've had problems with which is the night time battle against the Brigands who invade that small settlement up the hill.

I was so fed up with erveyone getting killed in the last battle that i reloaded an older save and coated some better piercing arrows in bane potion. Screw honor.

Yeah I was talking about the daytime ambush on the river. I also had Kuno die a ton in the battle you mentioned, but it was nothing like this. And if you see in my followup comment, this one was because the entire band was on basically no health when the quest started (originally unbeknownst to me).
