I say this because I spent 2 years (on and off) in a Franciscan Mission, and playing KCD and this quest years later brought those memories all back to the surface. It is masterful what they accomplished in a game.
Then you do 'get it', and the game has had the intended effect. I'm sure you noticed, the entire game is mostly irreverent to organized religion.
Hope you didn't misunderstand my post, I do not follow an organized religion either. The memories brought back of my time in Franciscan mission (while a grad student) were much like the monastery quest, not all enjoyable or good ones, though TBH there were some of those as well.
Time in a Franciscan Monastery is something that has long appealed to me - the discipline, the structure, the peace and quite and time to essentially meditate, reflect and introspect.
It's something I'd love to do but unfortunately I've looked into it and one of the prerequisites is affirming one's faith to God which would prove difficult to me seeing as how I'm a lifelong atheist.
