Whenever you "Attack", ur opponent will typically get to "Defend"
NPC Defense has the same time window options that the Player has, namely (in order), Master Strike, Perfect Block, Normal Block, Missed Block, but since it's a computer game, the NPC "Defense" result is decided by a formulation of probabilities based on the Skills and Abilities of the NPC AND the Player, and based on circumstance.
From what i can tell, Henry's largest contributing Skill & Ability factors for a successful (or unsuccessful) attack are Henry's Weapon & Warfare Skill Ratings, and Henry's Agility (faster attacks are more likely to hit).
Early in the game, NPCs have a very high chance (probability) of "Blocking" Henry's attacks beacuse his skills & abilities are very low, but when Henry has a decent level of Weapon Skill, Warfare and Agility, NPCs will have a much lower chance of "Blocking" Henry's attacks.
Also, the Tournament NPCs are Highly skilled - a poorly trained Henry has little chance of success, but that's how we learn.
And yes - Stamina works like a damage sponge, like the damage resistance of armor - so u must either deplete stamina or destroy the armor to cause damage.
... and depleting stamina is often faster with heavier armor
"MS-ftw" is a common strategy, as is Jabs to the face (Fast Attacks are harder to block).
And far less cheesy than arrows in 1v1 melee.
People really must suck at fighting games or something, this system isn't hard, against groups, thats something else tho....
