How to proceed in Tourney early game?
Dueling feels weird in that I can perfect block/dodge their attacks but whatever attack I throw out can get countered in an animation resulting in me taking dmg. Am I forgetting a combat mechanic? Am I simply too early in game to use mechanics that would beat opponents?

I made it through the first round easily enough, but the second guy with his sword/shield wont let any attacks through

EDIT: I beat him. I guess I have to drain his stamina with perfect blocks which opens up my attack. Idk, felt a little scuffed
Just learned about master strikes. cheese mode activated.
Seems like I have to master strike to reliably attack from block. After perfect blocking, idk what triggers the opponents master strike but its annoying to riposte into their master strike

Ended up installing a combat overhaul mod. Have to mirror attack direction to block/master strike, also for AI. Makes it a lot more difficult imo as missing the first hit basically opens you up for follow up combos..., but more consistent too. Still figuring out how to play through it.

Did you train with bernard a second time to learn master strike? You can go to him a few more times and he'll teach you a bunch more stuff/skill train

Ya, got beat up by Black Peter, looked up a video and it basically explained how crucial master strikes were. Cant really predict when I get master countered, but I guess I have to wait until their attacks
I did the tourney at level 7, on hardcore, master strikes........

There are (cough, cough) other ways to get an edge in the tourney as well, just saying, think inside the bowl -- I mean outside the box...!

Whenever you "Attack", ur opponent will typically get to "Defend"

NPC Defense has the same time window options that the Player has, namely (in order), Master Strike, Perfect Block, Normal Block, Missed Block, but since it's a computer game, the NPC "Defense" result is decided by a formulation of probabilities based on the Skills and Abilities of the NPC AND the Player, and based on circumstance.

From what i can tell, Henry's largest contributing Skill & Ability factors for a successful (or unsuccessful) attack are Henry's Weapon & Warfare Skill Ratings, and Henry's Agility (faster attacks are more likely to hit).

Early in the game, NPCs have a very high chance (probability) of "Blocking" Henry's attacks beacuse his skills & abilities are very low, but when Henry has a decent level of Weapon Skill, Warfare and Agility, NPCs will have a much lower chance of "Blocking" Henry's attacks.

Also, the Tournament NPCs are Highly skilled - a poorly trained Henry has little chance of success, but that's how we learn.

And yes - Stamina works like a damage sponge, like the damage resistance of armor - so u must either deplete stamina or destroy the armor to cause damage.

... and depleting stamina is often faster with heavier armor

Masterstrikes them all the time. It´s impossible to lose that way. Is it lame? Yes absolutely but it works and it´s the only way around their set chance of masterstriking you.

"MS-ftw" is a common strategy, as is Jabs to the face (Fast Attacks are harder to block).

And far less cheesy than arrows in 1v1 melee.

Yea kinda cheesing the system, but yeah, they can barely hit me once lol, If I miss the master strike, still get the perfect block or dodge.....

People really must suck at fighting games or something, this system isn't hard, against groups, thats something else tho....
