Tried the game on Epic and bought it on Steam
I must say I have really been enjoying this game so far. I don't follow games or gaming news that closely, so I haven't even heard of the game until it showed up free on Epic. I only use Epic for the free games, and if it's one I really like, I'll buy it on Steam instead (this game being the first). I watched a review before it went free, and was pretty intrigued. I love the idea of being a peasant, and not the chosen one. The only RPG's I have really played over the years have been The Elder Scrolls (Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim). This game is bit of a change in direction for me. That's why I wanted to give it a try on Epic not just to see how I would like it, but to see how well it would run on my computer. I got pulled into the game right at the start. It's so engaging and immersive. I love the idea that it's realistic and historically accurate. Before I knew it, 5 hours were gone and only then did I realize that it was just the introduction. lol And what a ride that introduction was! I paused playing the game there, when it started me at the mill. I thought I would have to start the game over after buying it on Steam, but to my surprise it picked up where I left off. I had made the decision I wanted to get the DLC's (I read the reviews, too), but I wanted it all under Steam since that I where every other game I have is. Since the Royal Edition was on sale, I decided to buy it.

Oh hope the gods of gaming are kind to you, KCD combat was made much more difficult from first release, and the crying and knashing of the teeth are still being heard echoing these and other forums.

Read the whinging posts for follow up advice on how to succeed... It is a beautiful and rewarding game, but not kind in the beginning.

Yeah, I've heard about the combat before getting the game. lol I actually haven't found it that bad so far. I do need to find a sword I can use, though. I found a quality sword, but it requires higher skill than I have. Since losing Radzig's sword, that was the only other weapon I had, so I need to find something I can use. lol

after 100 hours, fighting in this game is so fun, when you have 2 or 3 enemies with armor and and you win by using trick, push and stuff, feel like a real warrior!
same with thugs who have no armor (like peasants), its fun to destroy them but not so much for the reward when you sell their stuff xD
But yeah, at the beginning its pretty hard, better to avoid big fights if you can, if you want level up, better to try to get money to ask to the guys who can train you or fight the thugs who are poor and have no armor i suppose.

I see I'm not the only one :D I have to say it's nice the game recognised the save data from Epic store's installation. I can agree that combat is no joke, coming from Warband I can say it's way more difficult in KCD and I am loving it so far.
Heh I'd pay full price for this game any day. I loved it, and the DLCs.

Took it for free somewhere else, fell in love with it, bought a physical copy at full price and then all the extras - that was my best life decision of 2018 (worst decision was to buy complete edition of Witcher 3 for 3$ - good example of how big sales can make you buy ♥♥♥♥ you don't need)

Why would you repurchase a game on Steam when you already got it free on another platform?

You can still participate in the forums whether you own or don't own the game on steam.

But yes, this game is one of the epitome of RPG's at least for me. It's not that well known because of the tons of game reviewers and self deserving peeps needing hand-holding, ezpz RPGs giving them the sensation of being a "Demigod" or close to it from the get go.

Honestly speaking The Witcher 3 is not really a bad game, it just takes some getting used to the combat system and it is quite fun, but I guess it depends on what each one likes :)

For me it was my way of showing support to the devs and setting myself up for purchasing the DLC in the future without financially supporting Epic Games Store, plus the game was discounted so it was not too bad getting it :)

I'd actually laugh if Steam sales for KCD increased because of Epic giving away free games.

Also a malware from 2015 is disguising itself as EGS launcher now and is phishing.

^^^This

I decided I wanted the DLC, but I am not going to buy them on EGS. The game is on sale so it's no big deal. It's not that expensive. I also find it hypocritical to get the game on there, and then still come back to Steam to ask about it on the forum. And besides, I wouldn't even have EGS installed if it weren't for my nephews wanting to play Fortnite. The second they lose interest in that game I'm deleting it and EGS. Every other game I have is on Steam, and I don't want a separate launcher just for one game.
