after i hunt a hare, i can loot the arrow i shot with and some meat. i didnt bother taking the meat because it's too heavy. i did let the dog fetch it once in a while but 0 hares at the end??? this game is fun but buggy as hell. especially with quests. im going to keep playing but very dissapointing

each hare gives you like 20-30 meat and it's heavy. i took couple and gave to my dog.
i dont think that was the problem. it said i hunted 0 hares.

imagine situation IRL:
you: i go hunt
your friend: ok, fine... you are finally doing something
*after while*
you: i get 10 hares and 20 fishes
your friend: awesome, we will have some food!
you: nah, i let their bodies in wood, didnt take any meat and i just throw fishes back to water
your friend: sure... you catch nothing and now you just lie.

you did nothing, you hunted 0 hares
or do you have some proof to SHOW that you get some? like MEAT from them?

Either leave everything you don't need back at home or have a horse that can carry stuff for you

You only need like 2-3 hares worth. Hans sucks at hunting.

Not once in my multiple play throughs did I ever consider leaving the meat behind because even though it was very cumbersome having to lug it all around, it seemed fairly intuitive that you have to return with the meet or at least take the meat out of the carcas so that the game can register that you took it.

yeah i definitely thought about taking the meat, but after hunting a few hares and as i leveled up in hunting, i thought the game would automatically register a kill as a kill during 6am to 12pm noon. also since the game didnt clarify if i should take the meat or not, especially when it's weighing me down and i dont need the meat. this game seems to know everything i do, like when i steal something, everyone knows i stole it even though nobody really saw it. i just assumed the game would 'know' how many i killed from time A to time B. guess not. i also thought that at least clicking 'loot' for each hare i hunted would register as a kill, and it did not. i looted the arrows from each hare so i thought that would surely register as a kill. im too far ahead to try again but if i took 1 meat from each hare, maybe it would register.

if i was the programmer i would've clarified in the mission that i should take at least 1 meat from each hare, or create a 'hare hide' item per hare to collect. or if im not going to clarify that in the mission, just automatically register each hare kill as a kill and keep a counter at the bottom corner. it had room for vagueness.

thats dumb...
it is not about registering kill, game register that... it is about Capone who see you with empty hands, therefore you did not get anything.
you remember? it was bet about hunting... who get more...
you come back with nothing

I killed 8, and a buck. Crawled back to camp with 0 kills, so.

He is making excuses to downplay your victory. What do you not get?

In my playthrough, Henry hunted 640 weight worth of meat that morning. Even I feel sorry for Hans.

No and yes. I have only killed a single hare (me/Henry is a really lousy archer) and a deer. I killed the latter under dubious circumstances with a kind of hunting knife (which was in the camp in the chest) and laboriously carried both (unable to run because overburdened) back to camp.

Then I waited a little, putting the meat in the chest in between, but then taking it out again because I didn't know how the game's logic would handle it. And voila, to my great astonishment, Henry had won the “bet” and even received 100 pfennigs for it (at first Hans thought I was being rude, but then he didn't want to appear ungrateful).

Conclusion: Hans is a complete idiot, boastful, arrogant and actually even more incompetent than me/Henry. But now he is even my new friend – after I saved his ass. What a turn of events...

You make a lot of sense, the game unfortunately not so much. I'm still trying to figure out how the game "ticks", how it flows and how and whether it makes sense. I think that's the real challenge...

If you have the hunting perk, you can use the dog to obtain the meat. Hans won't know. :)

You can also stash the meat in the chest at the camp. When the contest is over it takes some time for Hans to get back to camp. So, just go and grab it.
