it annoys me that the only way to complete this quest is to commit crimes.

i mean, i already made Henry into a criminal. i have had him steal lots of things.
it's just that most of the quests offer alternative ways to complete them, but this one just stonewalls you, like you fond the guy that has it and he's just like "nope, not gonna part woth it. not even for a King's ransom. Nope, never gonna give it to you"

leaving me no choice but to rob it from the guy.
i guess they wanted to ise it as a way of challenging your thievery skills, but i feel like they should have put so,e way to convince the guy with speech or intimidation or blackmail or like, fight him for it, in an honoroable way, without having to become a murderer

TBH, the sword isn't really all that worth it. Yeah, it does a lot of damage, but it's durability is really low, so its condition drops really quickly. That's gonna require you to keep a store of blacksmith's kits on hand all the time, or keep making trips to a blacksmith's shop. A good starting longsword is the Magdeburg Sword, or the Soul Slicer. You can also occasionally find a Longinus' Sword if you go back to Skalitz, but that's a risky prospect if your combat skills aren't good.

i have herod's sword, but i've been using the cermonial mace currently. i keep reading that maces are the best, and it was the one skill i had furthest behind.

it's not really aout having to steal the stuff. i just robbed the entirety of talmberg. i literally cleaned them out of everything.

it just annoyed me that there are guys in this quest and you talk to them and can ask them about it but then don't even get the opportunity to try a speech check or a bribe or anything. it's just no, we want you to steal it and that's the only way.

doesn't really matter if i don't use the weapon or not. i only care to complete the quest. whatever

Well, according to the wiki, you will indeed have to steal three of the pieces. However, the other two can obtained through more acceptable means. One of them is sold by Ledetchko's blacksmith. Pickman's got the other one, and he'll give it to you as a reward if you pick him for a water-carrying job in the "Aquarius" side-quest; but you need to ask him about a reward before you pick him. He'll also won'y give you the sword piece right away; it'll be a few days before that.

funny thing about pickman's piece. he gave it to me immediately after i finished the quest, like i ran right back to him and he gave it to me.
the other 2 guys though, they never gave me the promised reward. their dialogue seems bugged, because every time i talk to thim, they are still asking to be picked for the job and henry still can ask them if they want the water carrier or the poo carrier job and i already completed the quest and gave them their job, like the guy tonda promised to teach unarmed and i talk to him and the option to get the reward isn't there.

as for stealing the 3 pieces. i can do that. it just felt kinda railroady, since most of the other quests offer multiple ways to complete them, but this one is like no, you can't bargain with these guys, and that one guy who said he won't part with his under any circumstances.
i dunno. these guys must be really superstitious to value these relics so highly
