No way to stealth Cumans in Prey mission.
As soon as the cut scene ends with Hans falling from his horse and I take control of Henry the Cumans immediately rush me and there is nothing I can do. They just wreck me; I can hardly land any blows. I've heard of people stealthing this, but I have no option to do that. The Cumans come straight for me and engage. I've tried running away to break contact, but they just pursue me and when I get far enough away the mission ends anyways. I've tried reloading a save and starting the entire quest over it still leads me to the same conclusion.

Am I missing something? How are other people able to stealth this yet I'm not?

I take it that you have a horse and kept up with Hans to see him get captured. If you don't have a horse and/or can't keep up with Hans, he gets captured (while you're not yet there) and you have to track him to that camp. In that case, you can engage the Cumans on your own terms.

Ah.. well, that's a bummer. I was hoping I could put off the combat training grind for another day...

Thanks.

Hats off to you for keeping up with Hans though and witnessing his capture, I never managed to do that. Hey, maybe try getting on your horse and fight cumans from saddle? Might be worth a try.

Before meeting nightingale, you have endless time to explore and build up money. In this time you can buy a horse and max out your stats

Doesnt he get mad if you dont meet him for the patrol and calls you lazy, does this not affect anything?

He gets mad, but the quest goes on and the story line isn't impacted.
Longest I've gone is 2 full in game days

First thing I did was go around finding money to get the Pegasus horse. Had no idea this would effect stealthing the Cumans in the Prey mission. If I had known that I would have waited. But it's ok, I'm gonna grind Sir Bernard until I'm an unstoppable Cuman slaying machine.

Ok so hold on a second... I had already played this mission on console a couple years ago. I knew what was going to happen so I just skipped the cut scene. Is there a part there where I actually have control of Henry after Hans takes off after the boar?

Yep, Sir Hans goes off after the boar, and you get a short cutscene of him riding away from you, and then (since it's expected that you won't have a horse) you wander around the area looking for him, and then you'll find the camp (usually by the yelling from Sir Hans). It's entirely possible to hit a few of the cumans with a bow before they close in on you.

I've been skipping the cutscenes once Hans tears off after the boar. Maybe I should try playing it out.

But after the cutscene skip it has Henry right on the edge of the camp with the Cumans charging at me....

I've only ever played the game in hardcore, so I don't know if that makes a difference here, but when I leave the cutscene, I'm standing in pretty much the same spot that Capon took the bow shot from, and then I've got to run all over the place to figure out where the camp is.

It all depends on whether you have a horse or not.

If you have a horse, you get a second cut scene that starts as soon as the boar runs away where you mount up and follow Hans (no choice). That will dump you at the edge of the Cuman camp.

First Cut Scene:

Second Cut Scene (galloping after Hans):

Immediate combat at Cuman camp:

If you don't have a horse, you don't get that cut scene. Instead you watch him leave and take charge of Henry as Hans gallops away. You then have to go find Hans. That's the scenario under which you can sneak up on the Cumans.

Cut Scene watching Hans gallop off (since you have no horse):

Quest Objectives (right after you get control back where boar was shot):

Huh, interesting. Suppose I've never gotten a horse before that point because I tend to follow the main quest to Neuhof before deviating. Glad there's an answer.

The quest is doable if you have a horse and start in the camp after cutscene and are still level 1, even is you have no arrows, but a bow def helps.
Try to keep the warrior who will charge you in between you and the archer who stays at some distance. The warrior tands to die pretty quickly if you attack him from the low angle on the side he can not defend with his shield and follow it it up with 1 or two blows. (might need to do this more than once depending on how it goes). If you have a bow it is even better, a headshot is usually enough to kill him or at least let him bleed, but if you are level 1 with the bow this might be difficult if you have not played the game before. If you are lucky the warrior even gets hit with an arrow of his own friend if you keep him between you and him. The archer afterwards is very easy by just holding up your shield while approaching when he shoots and then hitting him with a few quick easy melee hits when you are close enough because he has no shield.
It might take a few tries but you dont necessarily have to start over

Thanks. I'll reload a save and try the bow thing.
