(Figured it out) To do a master strike, or counter attack when blocking, can I have a shield in hand?

idk if its called master strike or something else, that move you should be able to do when you block and attack at the same time pretty much UNLESS they counter it with a perfect block.
I just found out after 55 hours on this playthrou, and 77 hours on a different one (never got past 50% of the game once), that for combos or most combos, you cant use a shield... I always thought I just wasnt too low of a skill level (I play with 30% exp gains so I never got past level 10 sword).

Then I decided to try not using a shield and in the first attack I got a combo off lmao.
So is this the same with the counter attack or master strike?
I do perfect blocks nearly 75% of the time, even with a no slow motion mod, but ive only had the master strike animation (or counter attack animation) when being trained on it. And no way after what my stats say is 500 out of 750ish perfect blocks, that Ive not a single time triggered it. So I have to be doing something wrong.

this mod makes it so I have to mirror the attacks, I forgot about that. So Ive figured it out. Guess Ill rarely be master striking LOL

Yes, you can Master Strike with a shield. i did this often before i disabled master strikes.

And, as a note:
The timing of a Master Strike is a small time window just prior to the Perfect Block window.

As far as the general discussion goes, i rarely attempt combos simply becuz i don't remember many, they mess with the battle cadence, and they're not needed.

i know the one combo Bernard teaches, and i use that against Runt to get repeated hits to the head (on HC). But that's also mainly becuz i use a LS in that fight to match the cutscene.

Otherwise i'd just beat him to death like all the others. And i prefer the axe.

Yes, you can do a Master Strike with a shield. The window of time to hit a Master Strike comes before the one for Perfect Block. You can tell if you do one because the animation for Perfect Block is just that slow-motion thing, while Master Strike has a bunch of different animations. While the window of time for Master Strike starts out really small, improving your Defense skill will make that window bigger. Watch the shoulder of your opponent's weapon hand; when that shoulder starts moving, that's the window of time for a Master Strike.

Yeah some combos won't work with a shield, although I don't know which and the game doesn't specify. I always try for combos when I remember them, I just don't expect them to hit much. If they do, bonus, if not no biggy.

you know what, thanks for the response, but I just realized https://www.nexusmods.com/kingdomcomedeliverance/mods/651, this mod requires you to MIRROR their zone. Which idk if that makes sense but w.e I like pretty much all of whats in the mod.

Makes it so you have to mirror the attack.
Also I have slow motion disabled, makes the game easier and I wanted hardcore with all debuffs on to be much harder and slower lol.

The game actually does specify, when it says the weapon that the combo's for. If the combo is for short sword, hunting sword, and saber, then it can be used with a shield, because those types of sword are all one-handed. Same with axes, warhammers and maces; combos for those weapons can also be used with shields. The longsword needs both hands, so longsword combos can't be done with a shield.

yeah I saw that for the combos, thats when I made this post :^) 200 game hours on steam, and literally only just figured that out LMAO. Ive seen it, but it never clicked in my head.
