Why can't you block arrows with a shield?

Like henry will just refuse to actually use the shield until you're right up in their face. and then he will probably refuse to target them anyways too. it makes no sense. Is there an intelligence perk I need to level up?

Defence....

You have to press 'Q' (on keyboard) each time you want to block. The character wont auto-block ever. So, watch out for stray arrows and time it right

this is correct.

most importantly Henry must "time it right" since it's not part of an attack-defend sequence.

Press & Hold "Q" for Henry to Raise his shield - then rotate & move to align with bowman.

The shield is not drawn to the arrow like to a melee weapon, so you are really intercepting the physics model of the arrow's flight with a certain part of Henry's physical model.

You sort of have to catch the arrow with the shield.

using your brain to succeed in a video game according to the parameters of the video game means that IRL intelligence is needed for the video game arrows to be blocked by utilizing the game mechanics and controls properly. IT has nothing to do with actually blocking an arrow in real life. We are talking about what happens in a video game.

You can, I had an arrow stuck in my shield in such a way that when I sprint, I got the "E Pickup" and the arrow name and I had to keep spamming it to get it right
