1: Killed both Cumans

3: Talked to Hans
4: Was told that the task of taling with Hans failed.
5: After a lengthy cutscene, I was sent out to help tracking down these killers
6: Was immediately hunted down by city guards for... I have absolutely no idea what for
This can't be right.
If you have no reason why the guards have accosted you, it makes little sense telling us about it because we can't help you without more information. What did the guard say your crime was? They usually verbalise the reason for your arrest.
Original Script required that you had no horse during this quest.
Original Script: (paraphrased) SPOILERS
Starting from the beginning of "chasing the boar". with no horse, Henry could not possibly keep up with Hans, so after a cutscene of Hans charging off, Henry returns to the thicket above the boar's wallow.
From here, Henry then must *search* for and find the Cuman camp - and then investigate.
If you are careful and slow, you will see/hear Hans calling at the Cumans, and the Cumans responding - this allows you to find everything before charging in.
Updated Script for Henry with a Horse: (paraphrased) SPOILERS
With a Horse, Henry can keep up with Hans - thus there is a cutscene of Henry and Hans charging after the Boar (and "Hans" model is already "injured")
Henry thus arrives at the edge of the Cuman camp - and the two Cumans are in range.
It seems to me you experience the latter (with horse), and most on-line discussions talk about the "no horse" option.
With that cleared up...
You can always swap weapons in combat, just select the other weapon.
However, there is a very large Lag to weapon swap activation (pump twice and wait)
Also, these cumans are rather easy to kill - for no horse option, i usually use a bow on one and then finish the other in melee - with horse, the best option is all melee and use your surroundings (part of what they are trying to teach in game).
Welcome to KCD.
I guess what I meant by that post was: I have not committed any crime like theft or murder/assault, no pickpocketing, nothing. 2nd time I reloaded the autosave at the beginning of The Hunt Begins, the same guards showed no interest in me. This makes me think the arrest was a bug and I was, in a very roundabout way I admit, asking if anyone had encountered this before.
I see! I have indeed a horse! That does explain it to me so thanks heaps!
What the heck were you drinking when you wrote that? This is complete hogwash. First of all, of course you are allowed to switch from bow to sword in a fight, you literally just have to press the '1' key.
Pardon my french, but If those two half-timbered Cumans manage to kill you, you're better off playing pokemon. You have to be spectacularly crap at just about everything to lose to these two halfwits. They're even debuffed to make it easier for you. Good grief man.
I always pay close attention to if the rabbits have a "take" or a "steal" on the loot window if I have ever reloaded during this stage. Hans is scripted so he will not change his behavior if sees you doing a crime...but you end up getting reported for it.
but yeah...those two early Cummans are push overs...I have never seen one not die to one or two arrow or sword strikes. Make sure you aren't using gear that you don't have the stats for. That will drastically drop the damage you can do.
I was wondering if I should bother with this but here is what did happen: Pressing 1 did nothing more than putting my bow away. Pressing 1 again did nothing and I had to press 2 to get the bow out. This is what happened so how about you calm your tits and listen up instead when people tell you what happen then they play? The fact that the sword would not come out (yes it was equipped before you keep thundering about) was what made me write what I did.
Even if some one is beating on you, you can switch weapons.
If pressing 1 doesn't change the weapon, the reason is that you haven't assigned a main hand weapon. That's not the game's fault though. In 2500 hours of playing the game never exhibited the bahaviour you described.
You can only switch between bow and melee weapon if a melee weapon is already selected/equipped. My guess is that OP didn't have any of the melee weapons in the inventory equipped so couldn't switch from the bow.
Sorry, I must have skimmed over the part where you mentioned it was equipped. Good luck with the new attempt.
Big lilly-like symbol? Mate, how stoned are you? What you are talking about is a perk. Weapons, when equipped don't show a symbol except when looking in the inventory, and there a sword has a sword-like symbol, not a lilly.
