You don't have to make the entire game be available in third person. Just add it for walking state - most people use third person in Skyrim simply for walking around. Even just horse riding third person camera would have been fine. Or just add a toggle, keep it jank and stop caring what people think, maybe add a "experimental feature" warning.
Oh yeah, that would be fine...and they added 3rd person for picking herbs. My guess is they didn't make third person animations for "everything". Like I have had this suspicion all these years that you don't actually lay down or sit at a table...your head just sort of floats down and up and your body disappears. There are some tables and beds were you can tell it just isn't right.
You know what, the irony of that never even occurred to me until just now. The devs left 3rd person view out of the game....... except for the one instance in which people absolutely wouldn't want it - the mundane and repetitive task of picking herbs. Good thing somebody released a mod removing the 3rd person herb-picking cut scene.
If the game came this way, I would be asking for a first person mod.
I always play games in first person when it's available.
