About training with bernard
Finished the basic one, went on the investigation quest, found ginger etc and returned to bernard. Saw i could train with him, but its all for money and i read somewhere it should be free or something and if not what kind of difficulty of fighting do i need to learn to get counter attack? Meaning as soon as you counter an attack you deal damage instantly to an enemy, guaranteed hit. I have around 400 currency so i should be able to pay for lvl 2 or lvl 3 training without problem.

Capt. Bernard is in Rattay. Most, if not all, training with him is free... simply because he was given a command (by Radzig or Hanush or both) to try to make Henry a fighter worthy to join Radzig's service.

Capt. Robard is in Talmberg. Everything you learn from him costs.

The actual physical combat training with Bernard is free but at certain increments you can essentially cheat/queue jump by paying for an increment rather than doing it yourself.

It's the same as if you want to pay Fritz for some supplementary boxing training.

Either i mistaked their names or Bernard is charging me now. Will look at it in an hour, but you go with Bernard to investigate the horse slaughter right? You find two cumans in the woods, one almost dead and one still alive, then u go after ginger etc. If it was Bernard then when i reported back to him i had to give him money for training. Maybe it was because we werent anywhere near Rattay.

I think you got it slightly confused, OP. IIRC, each trainer will only give you three levels of training per weapon, and you need to reach certain skill levels on your own with that weapon before you get access to this training. The counter-attack you speak of is Master Strike, and you need to be at level 20 in any particular melee weapon skill before you can learn it for that weapon. Remember that; learning Master Strike for the longsword is JUST for the longsword, so you still have to learn it for the other melee weapons. That takes time and effort, so start practicing.

I would recommend that you give the Rattay Tourney a try. It occurs once every seven in-game days, and it's repeatable, so losing means you can just try again the next week. It's great for training purposes, as you're guaranteed to gain some combat skills in it, even if you lose.

Whatever you decide, don't give up. The skills WILL come, as long as you keep practicing. Right now, you're at what I call "the newbie wall", and it's the first major challenge that everyone meets during their first time playing this game. I repeat: EVERYONE encounters this during their first playthrough. It seems difficult, but rest assured that you CAN get over this. You're not alone, and you seem to be approaching this with the right attitude. Keep up the practice, and you'll get better over time; that's guaranteed.

It doesnt seem difficult this time. I put so many hours into the game last time and i just couldnt fight. Now its quite easy, but it can take really long time to beat an opponent. Dunno how the bandit that almost killed Henry is called in english, but in czech hes called Prcek. I couldnt beat him. I had to use mods from nexus to even try and do something to him and i finally did it so i guess hes gonna be my challenge whether i learnt well this time or not.

It's this, gotta finish the ginger quest first then he will head back to Rattay and stand out by the training arena outside Rattay most of the day. He will then offer the hands-on training again at that point.

I already did finish it. Now im tasked by Radzig to do stuff. Will wait a day or something, fast travel to Rattay and see if i can be trained again, for free.

In original game release, I thought/expected "training" with NPCs was like training in Skyrim, a cheesy level up, so I did not bother AT ALL, and made it thru first play thru no problem but may have been (unknown to me) rougher at least in beginning.

I cannot say with later patches whether this combat condition is the same now, b/c a more vocal community (let's be honest...) decided to flex and make the game more difficult in these subsequent patches. So, try not training if you do not want to, but know that option is there for you... Salute!

I think I've had this happen in a save file or two where the option to train for free did not return right away after that quest, pretty sure it reappeared at some point, was never able to pin point the cause. Maybe just wait a day or two like you were gonna try or finish another quest or two. I also heard having mutt following you can interfere with initiating training with Bernard as well, haven't tested that one though.

Not lvl 20, but i still could learn the master strike. He just taught me in the training.

I think the confusion here is you can train with Bernard for free and level up, and you're physically practising with him, but you can also pay him for training where you just pay money and don't actually have to physically train with him, and you level up. Robard only has the pay-to-train option as well. Edit: Bernard is in Rattay, Robard is in Talmberg.

Yea that is definitely not the case, you can learn the master strike much sooner then level 20, level 3 is what I heard, if even that.

Also, learning master strikes for one type of weapon will unlock them for all, no need to go through training for every weapon type. Another correction.
