Once you have made it to Rattay, Hunting (rabbits, deer, boar) works well also, and you can sell the meat to the Apothecary, the Huntsman, and the Merchants.
The Apothecary and Huntsman resell nightly, so they will have more money the following day to buy more meat.
If you want to improve archery in Skalitz before leaving then you need to knockout or kill a guard in order to get a bow and some arrows and you need to make sure you recover them from the sheep as these arrows are finite.
I am planning that just for the "feel" of hunt with this archery system haha, but deers keep surviving to my "drunk-way" archery
I stole one in a guard tower near the church haha
What church is that?
That's what I was wondering. I think he must mean the church in Rattay near the Alchemist's shop. There is no church in Skalitz.
Or maybe close the taverns? Idk, I was wandering
In Talmberg, before getting to Rattay, there are multiple bows in the various chests in the Guard tower where you are suppose to get the armor - and there are many long distance arrows in the barrels
some folks dont know about the bows in the Talmberg guard tower becuz they read ahead and simply jumped from the castle bridge (total shame).
For shooting arrows, there is a side-to-side sway, based on skill, and a droop, based on bow strength.
The "damage" is based on the Bow Strength and the Arrow Type - and deer do take 2-3 shots to kill in the early game.
Cows and pigs will walk away but come right back. Each kill will get you 14 xp. I loot the meat, cook it, and sell it to the innkeeper. A few days at the inn and I'll be at level 10 in no time.
I do this at night using nighthawk potion since I can't use a torch and shoot at the same time. Watch out for passers-by. They will call the guards. You can level up all your weapons here.
Do you need to learn to read to make potions? When is a good moment to learn to read? I want to learn as soon as possible, but Im not going to the escribe just in case there are some strong enemies on the road (my character sucks yet)
Oh yeah I forgot about punching chickens to death to increase hand-to-hand skill. I think they respawn as well but make sure you punch them out of sight from other people as it's also a crime.
I didn't though about punch chickens, thanks haha
imo they are more fun.
that way you dont risk getting into trouble.
and at the same time you really learn to aim better and you earn some groschen.
We were talking more about increasing certain combat skills in Skalitz during the prologue playing as Henry so that he hits the ground running when he leaves the prologue. It's only possible to play archery contests in Skalitz as Theresa.
