What is the original language?
I cannot understand if the characters are just "badly" animated but are speaking in English, or if the animations (lips) refer to another language. I am playing in English. Is there a native language for the animations?

No it hasnt.
Warhorse Studios s.r.o. is a Czech video game developer based in Prague.
Founded in July 2011 by Dan Vávra and Martin Klíma, the studio produced Kingdom Come: Deliverance, which was released in February 2018. In February 2019, the company was acquired by Plaion.

It is set in the medieval Kingdom of Bohemia, an Imperial State of the Holy Roman Empire, with a focus on historically accurate content.
The story takes place during a war in Bohemia in 1403, in the times of King Wenceslaus IV. On the orders of Hungarian king Sigismund, half-brother of Wenceslaus, Cuman mercenaries raid the mining village of Skalitz, a major source of silver.

It's just a game and the characters are not actually saying anything so if you have the ability to read lips in real life the lip movement of the characters would not conform to any real person to person speech pattern. I highly doubt that the programmers will put in the effort or take the time to sync any lip movements by the characters to any particular language.

Character speaking animation most closely matches English - and i believe English is the correct answer for what language the character animations are speaking.

A fellow game player who lives near Prague agrees with this assessment.

However, there is absolutely a delay between the mouth motions and the speech you hear, which can also be made worse by your system behavior. For the base game alone, it is a rather small delay (under 1 second), but there is a delay.

I swear people will find the most meaningless things to complain about a game.

Although the devs are Czech, they decided on English as it would allow them to reach the largest audience (UK, USA, Canada, Australia, NZ, South Africa etc) for a game set in Medieval Europe and there were already some English-speaking voice actors who lived in Prague from what I understand. Hell, they even got Brian Blessed to play Conrad Keyser.

There have been some language expansions in patches since release though.

Yeah I was not sure. I'll check that youtube video out as well. I watch all movies in their original language (I'd rather watch Korean movies in Korean with subtitles rather than dubbed in any other language I understand) and since most games got "good enough" to have good facial / lips animations, I do the same in games but was not sure about Kingdom Come.

I also enjoyed watching this video.

I think that MacSuibhne would also enjoy this video because it kind of reinforces some of the things that he says about starting off from a position of ignorant youth, then learning, then earning your status and your subsequent place in the world.

Luke Dale as Hans Capon. Fun to watch as well.

Why do you highly doubt that? There are software packages for creating facial animations including lip-syncing, not limited to Faceware.

I thought Brian Blessed's remarks about it being " something new," in the Cast and Cutscenes video, was especially on point. I've said that any number of times--not a particularly brilliant or insightful observation on my part because I was not intimately involved, but so starkly in contrast to those who don't 'get it' at all.

Again, from almost everyone in these videos the words "brilliant" ring true and significant.

And the idea of Henry making the journey from "mid-teen" to manhood seemed so obvious to me but then, for whatever end result, I've made that journey myownself... and so many who don't get it, haven't.

All in all, as with the Fechtbuch video, very worth watching and thinking about... studying and pondering even... if you want to really and truly appreciate how "brilliant" this game really is.

I like the dub but jesus, I hope they can have money for a Czech dub.
I might never play with the Czech dub, but a national game needs its language.

I remember playing the first Witcher in Polish (maybe I played also the 3rd in Polish I am not sure). I cannot speak Polish. Playing the first one (it had such a charm back in the day was a very foreign and new thing) in that language (despite the lips animation not being as precise as today's standards) gave it much more charm and a more "fantasy" feeling (just because I could not understand it). But yeah normally people would play in their native language. As with movies, now I play also games in their original language exactly because of facial animations, I hate seeing the charachter say something with their lips but hearing something completely different (especially if I can speak the language...I understand what the lips say as well as what I hear). I know many languages and that would be the case for most European movies...but I think 99% of games have still English animations for the faces (in those where you have detailed lips animations) despite their country of origin.
