Making a potion without the recipe?
I'm trying to make the Tiredness potion, but I don't have the recipe. I googled the recipe and followed it. I got a message in-game saying "you have discovered new recipe steps." The recipe for Tiredness potion is now in my recipe book, but it's incomplete. It says:

"Prepare oil, a handful of chamomile, and two handfuls of poppy.
Grind the chamomile."

And that's it. The rest of the steps are missing. And the potion that I got after following the recipe is just an "unknown potion."

I tried repeating the process, thinking it might unlock additional steps, but it didn't.

Anyone have any insight on this? It's a pretty simple recipe, and I'm pretty certain I'm following it correctly. However, there are certain variables that aren't specified in the recipe. For example, you can grab the poppy and put it directly into the pot, or you can grab the poppy and put it in the dish first, then dump it in the pot, or you can grab two handfuls of poppy, put them in the dish, then dump them both in the pot at once. I'm wondering if you have to do things a certain, exact way in order to "unlock the additional recipe steps."

I know it'd be a lot easier to just seek out the recipe, buy it, and read it, but now i'm really curious.

Anyone have any insight on this?

This maybe a better link as some of these methods arent explained right some potions require distilling after. Some dont.
Oil based potions very likely need to distill.
Lullaby Potion
Helps you to fall asleep by reducing Energy to 0.
Oil
Poppy 1x
Thistle 1x
Herb Paris 1x
Drop the poppy in the cauldron and boil for one turn. Add the thistle and boil for one more turn. Leave to cool, then add the herb paris.
Here you pickup a vial and pour it into Vile complete process holding E. Does that brew it?
If not you will need to distill it.
Here's all the recipe explained better.

I have a few videos still making them. But here's how to use the distill process

Just brew potion no distill ( for a larger video screen click on the URL above video)

Thanks for trying to clear this up. However, I'm trying to make the Tiredness potion, which is different from the Lullaby potion.

But the "leave to cool" part you mentioned is interesting. This may be one of the unmentioned variables I was referring to. Is it necessary to let things cool in between adding ingredients? Also, is it possible to "overboil" things?

When you make 1 or 2 mistakes in the recipe you still get the result (perfect attempt gives you 3 potions at once I believe) but probably you can't fully learn the recipe this way. That's what happened I guess

I hoped the videos I shared illustrated the 2 process doesn't matter the recipe. The process is the same for each type.
No you cant over boil.
since you need exactness

Tiredness Potion
Drugs you to a comfortable state of inner tranquility, giving you time to restore your strength. Avoid using around people, as the Tiredness Potion inhibits your communication skills.

Oil
Chamomile 1x
Poppy 2x
Prepare oil, a handful of chamomile and two of poppy. Boil the poppy in the cauldron for one turn. Grind the chamomile. ( Add the chamomile to the mix and boil for one more turn. ) means just turn the hourglass one more time

I did this on latest play through...I honestly remembered the recipe for Dollmaker just from making so much of it before and it is a easy recipe too.

The first time I made it...only part of the recipe appeared in my cook book...I had to make it again (or maybe three times) before the entire recipe was there. So i think it is supposed to work like that, but in your case had a little bug in the process.

I think the problem I'm having is that the Tiredness Potion seems to have been removed from the game or something at some point. I can only find it referenced in a few places. In most wikis it is absent from the recipe list. In-game, it shows up in my recipe book as "Drowsiness."

I'm guessing it was removed and replaced with the "Lullaby" potion, which seems to have the same effect.

The only reason I was even trying to make this particular potion in the first place is because I had simply googled "Kingdom Come potions," found a list of potions, and picked one that sounded easy and that I had the ingredients for.
