Also, you might be able to not sell (trade in) Pebbles when buying a new horse, but ive never tried.
I also grabbed all the horses left in the field after the battle against Zoul but they all disappear once you complete the quest.
What I did was park all my horse near the rathaus in Pribyslavitz (once the town is completed) and it looked really beautiful....... I didn't even need to construct a stable; I went for the guard house instead.
It takes a long time.
To have Pebbles AND an owned horse, you just need to make sure you own a horse before you are offered Pebbles. When Bernard asks if you have a mount, you just answer yes. Even though you will then use your horse, Pebbles will still be available to you near the Rattay arena.
To get Ulrich's horse, you simply need to kill Ulrich either in his sleep at the Sasau Inn, when he ambushes you near Sasau at night, near the Rovna woodcutter camp or in the mines (even scaring him off in the mines equals the same). You will never see him again but his horse remains (I think the horse will be standing next to the Sasau Inn).
To get Rapota's horse, make sure that he is near his horse when you try to talk to him. When he mounts the horse and runs for it, chase him to a secluded area: last time I killed him it was near the Sasau monastery as there was nobody around.
There are 6 stampede horses at certain bandit camps - 2 in the Rattay area, 2 in the Talmberg/Uzhizt area and 2 in the Sasau/Skalitz area.
To get the 6 horses from the bandit camps, it's best to complete all of the bandit quests Bernard, Robard and Vom Berg, make a note of where you saw the horses and then go back to retrieve them after all quests are done otherwise the horses with respawn at their default locations next time you load up the save. If you complete the quests, the horses maintain their position across saves.
As I mentioned, it's possible to acquire all the horses at the Zoul battle. Just make sure all members of the band of bastards die during the battle then finish off the remaining zoul men and you will have access to 6 or 7 horses owned by the band (Jakey is dead at this point so his isn't there) and will have access to the Zoul horses (9 or 10 of them I believe as they outnumbered the BoB.
If you want to retain the BoB and Zoul horses then you need to nake sure you don't complete the quest fully - basically don't access any line of dialogue relating to the BoB when talking to Radzig if you can avoid it otherwise the horses disappear from the game scape.
I'd just like to state for the record though that although you can ride them, you can still only whistle for 1 owned horse and only have 1 horse inventory. Also, some horses like Ulrich's and Rapota's may still have the owned tag so mounting them while being seen may be a crime so always park the horse either late at night or out of sight. When mounting, it's always a good idea to look around first to make sure nodoby is watching.
Also, there are horses which can carry more than pebbles, and upgrading the saddlebags will give a decent increase to carry capacity. iirc I got mine from the Talmberg Horse Race. According to wiki Sport of King's side quest unlocks after/during Mysterious Ways MQ
Sorry for the necro
