Stolen goods on a horse

I was stopped by a guard so I paid the fine, and he took all my stolen goods from my horse even though I wasn't riding it. I thought the horse was a safe deposit box of sorts.

I hoped that at first too, but they do search the horse for stolen goods. The box at home is safe but you can't pull it out early (giggity) without restarting the "stolen timer".

Also you can drop stolen stuff on the ground but if they see it they might pick it up as well.

The safest bet is to do some quests to raise speech and carry a few bard potions and some savior schnapps. A schnapps and a reload will cancel the search, and bard potion should put you over the speech requirement to lie your way out of it.

that used to work back when the game was released but patched out as what you could do was instantly deposit all of your goods into your horse right before the diolog option opened up which was cheap so they fixed it. although to be fair do you assume that if you had a horse with you with saddle bags that the guards wouldn't also search those realisticly
