BTW, the meat can be completely rotten - activity givers don't care and will accept it.
Also, I think the butcher accepts the meat even if it is spoiled (I'm not 100% sure though, maybe they changed it since the latest updates)
However, if you're in no hurry (and need to boost your Alchemy skill), you can alwas brew lots of Preserver potions, go hunting in several trips, then use your potions on the meat pieces that are to bad for the butcher to accept (one potion per meat is enough).
