Make use of stealth, archery, potions, poisons, the dog, the horse and the environment i.e. run and hide.
With only 20+ hours in the game... and with all due respect... you have no idea what you're talking about. I suspect you have yet to train with Capt. Bernard.
The combat skills in this game have to be earned. You have to train Henry and you have to train yourself.
FWIW, I consistently take on up to 8 opponents at a time, on foot, me and Mutt alone. I love the combat 1v1 and 1vmany.
All that said, it will get easier and even a bit OP but it will never be guaranteed.
You're 100% right. I'm a mediocre fighter and I can still win group fights but only after practice, practice, practice. Oh and some potions and my warhound, Mutt.
You have to train and hone your skills. It's incredibly rewarding and what makes this game special. Yeah yeah yeah I like Skyrim too, but this ain't Skyrim. You can't just go to the forge and make yourself better. You need to practice, and learn how to pick your fights extremely carefully. Be a sneaky bastard and learn to poison people. It's fun. Learn to make drugs and take them. After a hundred hours or more you'll be John Rambo, guaranteed. But no matter how good you get, you can always be pulled from your horse and swarmed by a bunch of nobody's. Think Agincourt.............
For all the gusto from everyone else, i think we were all caught off guard once or twice when we were starting out in this game - it's an eye opener when you start the game as barely more than a peasant in rags and need to learn everything from scratch.
As some of us were told when we started, the game is well worth playing if you put in the effort to learn the mechanics - learn what works and what doesn't - and you will hopefully feel the sense of accomplishment we all share upon success.
Take nothing for granted - assume you can be killed if you are out numbered, out armored, out skilled, or just plain old make a mistake. Welcome to Kingdom Come. :)
Also, I'm loving the down-to-earth "practice practice" comments. Such honesty and realism.
learn master stroke or w/e and counter and GG you win every single fight
Only after you train with Bernard do you unlock free perks like perfect blocking and master strikes, which are CRITICAL to melee combad in KCD.
The game kind of punishes you harshly for not playing it the way it is intended for the first few hours sadly, but hey, its a story about a blacksmith, not a rogue or a mercenary with 20y of exp.
I need to find Marigold and bandages. I kept trying to stealth kill guards so I could just find the plants without sneaking the entire time. Removed all clothing to get my noise down. Crouched up to a guard. Right as I'm about to stealth kill. They turn around and non-stop 3 combo my ass to death. The dog, except for one instance has been completely useless with the sick-em command. Walks up to them and stands there. One time, I commanded him and he solo'd a guard. Can he just distract so I can get a single bow shot off...
The fact that I complete 2 chunks of the quest and then the last guard goes super saiyan on me. Forcing me to completely start over. Its like 15 mins wasted over and over again. Really missing the checkpoint type system right now. Hoping I get used to this. So I can enjoy the game.
The early combat is EXTREMELY unenjoyable right now tho.
Also, don't make the mistake of having your dog seen and then whistle to attack but he actually comes back. Guard will perma follow dog back to you and GG, you get beat to death. Cant even out run them. A naked chick carrying nothing being chased after by a man in full armor. Like sonic on your ass.
If your experiences are at odds with the viewpoint expressed in the OP, it doesn't count. Probably a lie.
There is still a risk to every fight - management of space is critical, and failure can result in poor outcomes to a fight, but a typical fight is quite manageable from soon after the initial training with Bernard, and a limited amount of follow-up training.
