u just help to cheese and exploit master strike :D
better is actually give advice how to git gud
like this one
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MB3SbS6LGDI
because you didnt help how to combat, you just help how to bypass combat :D
and i dont know what you, but i like to play games, git gud, overcome challenge and not cheese and exploit or even cheat my way thru
maybe name this your "advice" properly - spme basic exploits and cheese - its more accurate and it actualy CAN help ppl who need it. but when u pretend it is help how to be better in fight.. then they will be not able to find it, when they try find cheese, exploits or cheats.
Master strikes are a definite way to go since they are virtually an attack and defensive maneuver at the same time.
You don't even need a bow to destroy the enemy on horseback since melee works quite well from horseback as well. This video I made shows how the player can run circles around the enemy as long as the horse they've got has a good courage stat.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtcMfq4g2dI
I've never used Mutt but I could see how helpful he is with how the enemy dogs can pin you down for quite a long time; if Mutt could do that then the player could wail on the enemy when he is pinned the same way.
Right on!
Mutt is a great warhound. I've seen him kill enemies and their frickin' dogs.
I haven't tried melee from horseback yet, how do you avoid being unhorsed? Seems like every time I'm near an enemy they pull me right off lol...
Also, is there a way to ensure a master strike? It seems totally random between if Henry does a perfect block or a master strike... I guess it'd be OP if you could master strike every time lol
An Iso-RPG character with only 1 point in melee will rarely hit anything but with 20 points you become a Sword Saint Super Hero. KCD works in a very similar way if you peel off the illusion of its real-time combat system
Henry's interaction with combat is stats based. The success of the hits you make and the outcome is a comparison between your stats and your opponent's stats. This is why lock-on is so heavily forced in combat.
If Henry's stats are low, an opponent can easily counter his attacks. This is why early game Henry has a tough time even with peasant bandits. When your stats are high enough however, you can just brute force spam click to defeat a lesser opponent
Couple this with the fact that late game stats are compounded with various bonuses which make Henry even more powerful - Once you approach Level 20, Henry stops being a weak dirty peasant and approaches the power level of a Warhammer hero. Running 8v1 into the heaviest armoured men-at-arms, Cumans and knights and emerging victorious becomes possible. 5v1 Cumans without losing a single HP becomes within reach!
You do not need to "Git Gud", you need to make Henry "Git Gud" and accumulate stats. Once your stats > enemy stats, the game becomes very easy
However, if your stats are not high, the game let's you play defensively with master strikes. Your defense and weapon stats will determine the window you have to press block, but even if it's very low you can still succeed with greater odds than attacking
-
Another reason why archery is so powerful is because the success of a hit is not dependent on your enemy stats (The only factor calculated by the enemy is armour value and damage output)
Henry's skill will cause the bow to move around more (or misfire if it requires too much strength), but this can be compensated for. Your own skill determines your hits and is not artificially mitigated - when your chance to hit success is free from in game constraint, a player can become unbelievably dangerous and effective
Interesting, I had not considered this games combat in that way! Possibly why it can be so hard to get a single hit on an unstaggered soldier lol... very helpful post!
Never stop galloping/moving is really the main thing to do, after that you've just gotta get the timing down for swiping so the attack animation lands while moving. Tricky but I'm decent at it, can see in the video.
Like Bacon said, it's not just a matter of the player's timing but also Henry's stats since higher stats will widen the window/time frame for pulling off a master strike.
In normal mode I would be watching the targeting star. I had read that master strikes needed to happen before the green shield appeared. I had a hard time with that because I kept focusing on the star.
In hardcore the target reticle has no star and no green shield markers. I had to focus on Bernard's movements. That where I learned to watch for him to raise his weapon to begin to strike. It's a very obvious move when it happens. After that I was able to master strike most of the time. I even took down Black Peter with it. Huzzah!
i think that's the key...I've been saying it for what seems like ages--you have to watch the opponent. Everything comes from being tactically aware.
Once I learned that I was able to pull off master strikes pretty early in the game (after Bernard teaches them to you, of course)
Ah, I thought it just happened with the green shield! I'll focus on that timing next time I play
but.. i guess real guides isnt what u looking for.. better are exploits and cheesing, right?
seriously, rename your topic to cheesing and exploiting, when your only advice is cheesing and exploiting :)
and when u need learn how it really works.. use some guides what i already post on this forum
with stats is just easier to master combat, but until you brutally overlevel your opponents, you still need learn2play to not be useless in combat
you still need use feint, combos, block in right time.
your false assumption is based on fact that you need "unlock" abilities with Bernard and on fact that you have longer time window for reaction how Henry level up. and when you overlevel enemies, then you are usually faster than them, you have more stamina than them (and then you deplete their faster than yours even when u dont use combat mechanics and just trying smashing them blindly.. they block your hits, but it cost them stamina.. and you have more)
but yes, you can cheese game by brutally overleveling all enemies.
its a way for ppl who arent able learn to play.. and it need a LOT of grind :D
You kinda just proved my point.
Not saying you don't. The direction of the attack contributes to your hit percentage. Single feints add a certain amount, double feints more, and swinging from contra-direction adds to it further. But all this is still percentage based.
I can see how you think this may relate to my argument but it really does not factor in.
Actually, this is the most interesting part of your response. The speed at which your swing plays out and the effect it has on preset mo-cap animation.
There are some animations that do not seem to change speed, such as the mo-cap NPCs when they preform an action or reaction. While your basic swing speed is a visual expression of Henry's skill level, how your opponent will react to it is a comparison between your stats
Just do a standard jab on a full health, full stamina Cuman at low level when locked-on at normal range and he'll probably block/counter/parry it. But perform the same standard jab when Henry is high level, and the Cuman is more likely to get hit
I'm not talking about attrition or battering them down though. When you are high level enough, you can take out heavily armoured enemies in your first 2 hits. POP-POP, dead. If your levels were lower, those hits would lead to the blocked outcome or a counter animation.
This isn't actually a good thing because at high levels it's very easy to accidentally kill people who challenge you to duels in the opening seconds. POP-POP, dead.
Isn't learning to cheese learning to play? Like cheesing means doing something the game did not intend for you to do, and do you mean the game did not intend for Henry to level up?
If you're talking about cheese there are waaaay stinkier ones like using a polearm and hiding behind obstacles where enemies can't hit you but you can still whack them LOL, or jumping on barrels and shooting them with a bow
I kinda forced myself to learn combat before meeting Cpt Bernard. I spent like an hour trying to take down a fully armoured bandit near Skalitz when I had to return to bury Henry's parents (my stats were all 1 and 2s except for Speech).
That one I had to cheese to kill him. I had to jab or swing from an unlocked angle while he was moving towards me so that he could not play out his counter/block/dodge-animation normally. I achieved unlock angles by using a combination of sprinting moves and the unlock key.
Now against those types of heavy axe, heavy armour bandits I don't need to use unlock cheese. I just press the attack button and they get hit.
After that I fought every encounter and cleared out every camp I came across. No retreat, no surrender.
From that I learnt a lot about the interactions with battle and how NPCs behave.
TO SUMMARISE:
Even if you did all the right things at low level, the odds are still stacked against you and the enemy will play out a mo-cap counter not in your favour. At high levels, you can make basic attacks or even mistakes and landing the hit is still in your favour
You can notice this a lot more when using the no slow motion mods, since when the slow motion effects occurs, the whole game slows down not just the animations. So by removing the slow motion, the block animations speed up to inhuman, but predetermined speeds that are capped by the motion capture; they are the same speed every time regardless of level. Master strike animations are also set to a predetermined speed but don't have any slow motion effect occurring during them so don't appear at inhuman speeds.
Can help determine which animations are effected by your stats, and which aren't in terms of speed.
I posted this because when I asked for tips 6 months ago, all I got were people jerking themselves while screaming "Git gud noob lul". No videos or tips were offered. I will check out your video, as I'm sure it will be helpful.
At that time, 6 months ago, I was fully armored with decent sword and shield, but I still struggled to kill even peasants. The weird combat mechanics did not make sense to my brain. As far as I can tell even now, feints don't do anything (I still get master striked almost every time I swing, even if it's a feint). My levels are between 12-15, though I recently switched to a mace so maybe that's hurting me.
Anyways, these are practical tips, and even the one I describe as cheese is hardly that. Getting a controller is practical, not cheese. Playing defensively isn't cheese. Using Mutt isn't cheese. Horseback archery isn't cheese. No exploits mentioned. So I'm not sure what your point is.
