best longsword in game?
What is considered to the be the best Longsword in the game? i found the Longinus sword through a treasure map, i found it about 20 to 30 hours into playing, but ever since finding it, i've never really seen any other sword that matches it. I found another sword called St Micheal's sword, that's the only other sword that's sort of came close to being at the same stats as Longinus.

You will hardly notice the difference in durability given how close those numbers are 71-77. I have not being concerned about the durability of the St G. It holds up well enough to dispatch several enemies in a battle. It does not eat Blacksmith kits to repair it in the field. Supplying damage to the enemy is the first concern, then durability.

au contraire, lad, the St. George's is hilariously expensive to repair in the field. I thing 5% damage eats through an entire blacksmiths kit if I remember correctly. It was the reason I switched to an Axe. Long swords are in general quite resource-expensive.
Given how cheap the kits are, not a problem. After dispatching several enemies, including armored, it barely scratched the St. George (less than 5%). You should be repairing your equipment after every battle because if you leave it too long, then it will eat repair kits no matter what it is you repair.

When I go against armoured enemies, I usually use the plated heavy axe as that's the only weapon that does significant blunt, slash and stab damage. If you go against real heavies, like the Bandits in Skalitz, you're better off with a Bailiffs Mace. That thing punches every dude out of the jacket in a jiffy. The only problem is that the mace is hard to level. Three master strikes and a few whacks to follow up and Captain Cheerfull surrenders during training, so you have to start the fight over and over again.

Why even waste repair kits on edged weapons. They should be reserved for armour (for armour kits) and maces/polearms/bows (for weapon kits) - as axes and swords can be repaired for free at a wheel.

Are repair kits even a big deal? I buy out the town's supply after every visit and load my horse with them. In the late game money isn't an issue and it saves you a lot of time repairing with kits rather than running to a wheel

I repair after every battle though my weapon of choice is the bailiff mace and the boarback shield

I don't use axes. I find that whatever an axe can do, a mace type weapon can do better

You don't always have a wheel available to get a free fix. You should always have field kits to repair everything that you use. Unless you want to waste time continuously going to the nearest town that has a wheel or trader that can fix stuff for you, keep in mind that you may run into another battle while going to use that free wheel miles away.

If you hate repairing swords that much then get the Tusk Long sword that has 100% Durability. It does not do enough damage but it is very durable.

I don't carry many Blacksmith kits but enough to get me to the next town for the Wheel (I have a sharpening perk for weapons that I sharpen myself). I also have perks for fixing my own armour & tailoring so I carry those kits too. Kits are dirt cheap, I usually have up to 3 of each kind on the horse. Cant say I notice much difference between small and large kits.

It is useful to stock up on kits that you store in your locker so that you dont overload the horse.

I use the long sword and a side arm of a high dmg metal hammer (I forget which one). Those two usually get the job done quite efficiently. A good bow for the early hits on the dangerous targets.

I'll vote for Magdeburg sword. Best defence and durability stats. Yea its not the best overall, but I love its looks. And its rare. I only ever loot it from the card players camp in Hans Capon DLC. After killing them all.

Treasure map 22 (near Vranik) has a Magdeburg sword. You can also nick it from the sissy knight, who keeps challenging you. If your stats are high enough, you'll one-shot the ninny and can nick the sword. Bandits in Skalitz also often have the MD sword.

It occurs to me that ideally, Henry should be good enough to defeat any enemy with any weapon. So it follows that the best longsword in the game is the one you use the most.

St. George's is the best longsword if we're looking at stats... although if you have mastered the combat then really you could defeat any enemy regardless of what weapon you have (will just take a bit longer).

As far as the overall experience goes, the heavy plated Axe without a shield is the best. The masterstrikes of it are just gloriously bad-ass. And although not overly high in stats, it does all 3 types of damage in two-digit numbers: stab, slash and blunt.

Actually axes are the worst against heavy armor...or light armor for that matter. When you attack you do 50% of the slash damage and 50% of the blunt damage with any swing attack. So when you hit tough armor...most damage is negated since it is handled like two weak attacks rather than one strong attack.

And as to the durability of a sword...am I the only one that just has a horse loaded up with repair kits? And often I just wait till I can use a grinding wheel...there are no fights in the game that you will actually burn through a whole sword or even to the point its damage is severely diminished. That why maces are so over powered...you have to use kits or pay an NPC to repair them. Swords are free to repair. Like...I never even look at durability stats. Even on Legendary they don't seem to matter all that much. Especially if you use poison.
