best longsword in game?
What is considered to the be the best Longsword in the game? i found the Longinus sword through a treasure map, i found it about 20 to 30 hours into playing, but ever since finding it, i've never really seen any other sword that matches it. I found another sword called St Micheal's sword, that's the only other sword that's sort of came close to being at the same stats as Longinus.

My favourite in the base game was the merchant's sword - just enough to be viable through the end game, but not too overblown to invalidate armour completely (some of the 'stat explosion' longswords strongly undermine the best bits of the combat system), and the stated developer intent.

This is a different answer to most - it isn't which is the most stronk.. but which was to me the most fun.

St Georges is the best stat wise. Can be obtained from the treasure chest north of Ledetchko, next to the big fenced tree.

In practice, once you get your hands on a Longinus or a St. Michael's, even ad mid-tier levels, you're going to do some nice damage in any case, they are eminently useful swords, too. The St. George is just the top of the top-tier group.

As for other longswords, the Fearnot and Magdeburg are very respectable, too, and very handy for early-game Henry when his strength is advanced beyond the rest of his stats.

God be with ye.

The game offers a number of good longswords and other weapons, but esp. early in the game, stabbing at an opponents face can be one of the best and easiest techniques to do damage. So a longsword, almost any longsword, (without a shield, OC) is, IMO, the weapon of choice, just because of its reach.

i like the longinus one due to "hitting them with the pointy end". I'm sure it say's the stabbing/piercing is the best i have so far

For speed of use, and security against loss of stats with injury, I would suggest only taking the 'minimum' sword which will 'work' against an opponent, rather than max stats. Allow for losing 25% of your strength/agility and select a weapon with requirements below that lower value (same for bows as well... if not even lower than that for the rapidity of draw advantages). Tiredness/hunger/goal can increase the base stat loss as well even when uninjured, can be a problem if you are 'on the limit'.

The St George Long sword is the best.

This is a pretty important point. Using a weapon you do not have stats for messes up your speed and lowers your to-hit chance... And enemies will more frequently counter you and master-strike you, while you will be less able to defend/interrupt their combos

It's a good one, to be sure, but it's not the best. It's damage is among the best, but Longinus' Sword and St. Michael's Sword have higher durability. So if you want a sword that can go longer without having to be repaired, you'll want one of those two. I usually use Longinus' Sword until I can get my hands on St. Michael's Sword.

Repairing is cheap anyway so that's a none issue.

It is an issue if you don't stay on top of it. The dmg of a bow drops by a lot as it deteriorates by only a few percent. It is not long until those arrows are bouncing off or doing a fraction of the damage they should. Not what you want when dealing with multiple metallic targets.

St. George’s Sword :
Stab = 72
Slash = 72
Blunt = 3
Defense = 110
Durability = 71

St. Michael’s Sword :
Stab = 58
Slash = 58
Blunt = 3
Defense = 109
Durability = 75

Longinus’ Sword :
Stab = 68
Slash = 55
Blunt = 3
Defense = 111
Durability = 77

There is also a DLC sword (From The Ashes DLC) :
Tusk :
Stab = 58
Slash = 58
Blunt = 3
Defense = 104
Durability = 100

You will hardly notice the difference in durability given how close those numbers are 71-77. I have not being concerned about the durability of the St G. It holds up well enough to dispatch several enemies in a battle. It does not eat Blacksmith kits to repair it in the field. Supplying damage to the enemy is the first concern, then durability.

Long sword is all about aesthetics so use the one that makes you shine the most on the battlefield.
You can also steal the Kuttenberg executioner's Longsword. That thing has some hefty slash damage.

The best longsword is of course the St. George's, but it is actually too powerful for my taste. If you manage to master-strike Runt's first attack, you'll one-shot him. So I usually go with the Magdeburg sword, cuz I also use the Magdeburg armour, it's my state capitol and I studied there, so there's that :steamhappy:

au contraire, lad, the St. George's is hilariously expensive to repair in the field. I thing 5% damage eats through an entire blacksmiths kit if I remember correctly. It was the reason I switched to an Axe. Long swords are in general quite resource-expensive.
