Spots to find Cumans?
I'm near the end of the game but going back to finish the Masquerade quest, where I need to get the Cuman disguises.

I went to the three Cuman camps that are marked for the quest, killed them and took their helmets. Only after I got back to the Inn, I realised I was supposed to take their armor too. So I went back but the bodies are gone and the camps are empty. I think they'll respawn eventually, but I really don't like passing game time via sleeping, waiting or fast travelling.

So I went riding all the round the map trying to get attacked or find Cumans, but I only found many, many bandits instead. I tried these that places I have been attacked by Cumans before but no such luck of getting attacked again:

  • the road leading to Pribyslavitz from the west,
  • the road around Skalitz to the north,
  • across the river to the west of the Monastery,
  • the swamp across to the river to the east of the Monastery,
  • the road southeast of Sasau towards Vranik,
  • the path between Rattay Mill and Kohelnitz (miller Woyzeck), and
  • the road to the Bauer farm near Uzhitz.

Head back to Skalitz. There's three different encounters that can happen in the upper part of the town, and Cumans are involved in two of them.

Thanks. I tried it but only found bandits after a couple loops around.

In the end, Henry had been kept busy for two days looking for Cumans, killing bandits, and gathering game meat for the Sasau butcher. Meanwhile more Cumans had taken up at the camps near the Inn.

There's a quest line you can start with Bernard called "Ruin" where you go clear Bandit Camps for him, and then for "Raiders", clear Cuman Camps for Sir Bernard in Talmberg, and then finally, for Interlopers", clear high-level Bandit Camps for the guy in Sassasu Monastery (these last ones are lucrative).

So, Ambush and Skirmish locations are completely Random groups (Bandits, Guards, and/or Cumans) - but the Cuman Camps for "Raiders" quest is always Cumans

This link talks about that quest, and shows locations for each Cuman Camp

I already finished those activities. Most of the locations listed overlap with the ones you're directed to during Masquerade - the ones I cleared already. Sounds like the camp near the cave north of the road between Rovna and Talmberg would have been a possibility.

How do the random encounters work? After a particular encounter spawns it doesn't spawn again? From all the riding I've been doing, the roads seem pretty safe of late...

Skirmish & Ambush sites do respawn, but it's completely random (and i swear it gets stuck sometimes).

The most reliable Skirmish location is inside Skalitz Town - the chance of a spawn there is 100% (unless spawning is currently disabled - different topic)

Like all Skirmish locations, 2 groups will spawn of the following types:
- Bandits (a few versions)
- Guards (a few versions)
- Cumans (a few versions)
- Traders (high level)

There can also be a third "previously dead" group lying on the ground.

After you clear the current skirmish, take the road from the main gate and follow it Northeast to the edge of the woods by the small farm. Turn around, and ride back to Skalitz - it will have respawned.

From the farm, you can also make a Save and do some save scumming if you prefer, in case the Skalitz re-spawn is not to your liking.

p.s. because Skalitz is the higher level spawn groups, you have a good chance of finding armor on the cumans when they spawn.

I went to Skalitz and there was nobody there. I hadn't realized it, but I think my random encounters are bugged and stopped. I was just reading, as well as in your post, that this can sometimes happen.

I don't think encounters should be stopped just because of the quest I'm on, which is the start of An Oath is an Oath (Talk to Sir Divish once you're ready).

Oh well, rather than try to fix it I'll probably just finish up the main quest and start a hardcore run.

Well, once ur done with the primary part of the main quest, then the world should return to normal and everything should be active again - not a bad time to explore side quests.

As far as following playthroughs go though, i actually do many side quests before even starting the main quest - i haven't talked to Radzig at all and Henry's sword skill is currently at 7 - without training from Bernard - on HC

Loads of fun for Henry to be in service to himself. :)

Unfortunately some side quests are locked until you start the main quest, but there are still plenty that aren't. I'm gonna be visiting Lady Stephanie soon... she needs me to do her... a favor,,, and i need her jewelry :)

Skalitz has two sections to it, and the upper part is where the fighting happens. The upper part is the section that's surrounded by a wooden wall of stakes. You can get there by following the road that's going uphill.

If you can remember the camp locations from the raid quests from cpt bernard and cpt robard and the guy at the monastery then revisit those since they refresh
