I never even got that far, tbh. I got beat up by the guards while trying to lockpick a trunk and they brought me straight to a cut-scene. Try that. Other times I just picked fights for the heck of it.
There might be something the game wants you to do before you go into that house, but in three successive playthru's I've never done it. Pick fight - get beat up - meet Eric.
There is a set of upright poles to the left--sort of a walkway. At the end of those poles is another door and that's where Erik is.
I made the same mistake when i played that part and it made me really, really want to come here and rant about bugs in the game.
(Edit: Come on, you gotta admit that was a good one.)
1. Getting beat up by the guards is an option, but I don't like that one because I miss stuff.
2. You are correct, I was at the wrong door. I went to the left, there is a door between the other two buildings and Erik is inside.
Thank you everyone for your help!
You're welcome... we've all been there.
Well, IMO, you're wrong about that, too. I've seen some really thoughtful, generous and rational people be banned here for getting caught up arguing with trolls (although I've also seen people blatantly using gratuitous expletives and foul language, and ad hominem attacks and even threats, with no consequences).
For the record...it seems to me if people are trying to help you and you reject their advice out of hand... well, frankly, I don't know why anyone continues to engage--it's the definition of insanity.
I don't often talk to individuals (and when I do I generally quote them) but rather I talk to 'concepts', as who should say. Apropos of being a shoemaker I'm partial to "If the shoe fits, wear it."
In any case, I am not particularly inclined to insult anyone personally nor am I eager to get banned... again.
[fingers crossed]
You can't seriously say you yourself weren't coming across as slightly antagonistic when you came in constantly suggesting that every ingame-hiccup was entirely my fault. Them's fightin' words.
(Also I have to go to bed because I'm literally on the other side of the world from you, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ round earth.)
I don't know the exact circumstances of anyone's problems. Maybe what seems to me and others to be singular 'bugs' (that don't seem to be widespread or affect anyone else) really is God's retribution and has no logical explanation except "it sucks to be you."
But I think it is premature, if nothing else... maybe even rash... to embrace excuses and victimhood even before looking for solutions closer to home.
As for being "thoughtful, generous and rational" I'll leave that judgement for others (I wasn't necessarily talking about myself) but 'laying about with the dull sword of ignorance' is none of those things.
I was doing neither--I was not "suggesting that every ingame-hiccup was entirely my fault" not was I being antagonistic.
TBH, I am 75 years old. I don't have anything to prove. One of the great joys of being old is that I've found an authenticity that too many, IMO, never see the value of.
