Purpose of Shrines?

Im just wondering if they are of any significance in the game?

Is there a reward or perk you get for finding all of them?

This question also applies to the crosses you find on the roads.

I'm not totally sure, but I think the names on them might be those of kickstarters. There's also a perk you can unlock (under reading, I think?) where when you view them for the first time, you get a +2 charisma buff for a period of time.

And "find" specifically means activate, not just discover marker on map.

Shrines and crosses are really useful if you're playing hardcore and get hopelessly lost, provided you haven't turned them off on the map.
