Cleaning blood off of weapons
I really don't like the the way this mechanic works in the game. It feels unfinished and, as it stands, is counter-intuitive and bad for immersion.

I shouldn't have to take a sword or axe to a grindstone to get the blood off. I haven't researched this, but I'm sure someone in the Middle Ages would have used an expendable rag or its equivalent. My Henry usually has nettles on him, so he would probably have used that. In sixteenth century France they probably would have used goose feathers (what stood in for toilet paper).

What's driving me up the wall is that I've been concentrating on developing my mace skill lately. As far as I can tell there is no way to clean the blood off a mace or a warhammer if it isn't already damaged. That is simply absurd. I shouldn't have to bang my perfectly intact but bloody mace into a wall to get a few scratches just so I can convince a swordsmith to wipe the blood off.

Please fix or do sumfink!

Go to the Village blacksmith talk to him ask about repairs highlight the item> he will repair all your tools- armor for a fee.Just highlight it.
I haggle the price down. Get reputation as well.
You could also use the grinder yourself.
Press the space bar a lot of times lol

Yes, there is a mechanic for cleaning blood, but it is completely wrongheaded.

One of the things I was complaining about in my earlier post is that you can't take a mace or a warhammer to a grindstone, and unless they have suffered at least one point of damage they won't repair one of these weapons if it is only bloody.

Blood is something you should be able to wipe off instantly. It shouldn't be something that sends a weapon back to the shop. Henry is the son of a blacksmith: he shouldn't be helpless when it comes to cleaning weapons in the field.

Agree, but maybe blood on them has a purpose. if its nearly 100% I wouldn't worry about.
Go to the bath house and ask to use the services select to have a bath and launder the garments
it gets rid of the blood on your mace as well .
It did with my axe.

The point is NOT how to do it, the point is that it shouldn't be that way at all.

People cant read in this forum, the OP knows how to clean the blood in the game, the complaint is that he cant use a rag to clean it himself. which makes completely sense in real life, but somehow in the game you need to use a grindstone, which does not make sense at all in real life, you wouldnt even touch the grindstone with a dirty sword with blood all over it... so people learn how to read! :P

Can't wipe off blood

Can't just kick the dog in its snout with a steel boot, or bitchslap it with a gauntlet, or just stick a dagger in its neck

Can't throw anything - neither rock to distract enemies Far Cry-style, nor e.g. poisoned meat for the dog or other items

Can't hit a tree to make enemy-luring sound without making weird movements

Can't raise visor at will

Can't cook 100 lepiotas like a normal person, instead of one-at-a-time

Can't defend yourself using a bow, an arrow or a dagger in melee

Can't set enemies on fire, e.g. sleeping bandits

Can't just kick people off cliffs

Can't use sword from horseback normally (with hold-release controls)

Can't take out or put away shield without going into inventory

Can't change melee weapon like a normal person would, without going into inventory too

Can't dirty yourself "Predator"-style to become better camouflaged

Can't assign more hotkeys for stuff

...

That's just off the top of my head, there are lots of unresolved issues like that

If you have the DLC Theresa will fix up all your armor and weapon blood stains in Rattay.

Use the bath house services a bath and wash your clothes the blood is also removed for equiped sword or baton.
Edit
you dont need the Theresa DLC.
Play the Quest Court Theresa complete it , then you can ask her to repair your clothes.
But dont ask more than once a day or she will complain.

other than RP is there any downside to having a bloody sword? if its sheathed can NPCs tell that there is blood on it?

Can't even take a ♥♥♥♥ at the toilets or urinate on someone's face at will

But seriously, blacksmith's repair kits work, too. You can imagine they include stuff for cleaning

That would make sense but it's probably bugged since it repairs the weapon but doesn't remove the blood. Also, you should be able to do it even if the weapon is not damaged.
Checked it just now, indeed it seems to be bugged. I could repair a 100% condition bloodstained sword with blacksmith's kit and the ui icon showing blood even dissappeared at first (which hints that it's intended to remove the blood), but reappeared as I closed and opened back the inventory screen - didn't work
