Good perspective. Well done.
I am so sorry for necro, but this untrue statement needs to be corrected. Polearms IRL are prety OP, in combat the reach advantage is what wins fights, Someone with short sword and without shield is kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥ againts longsword or spear man, assuming comparable skill. And mainly spears/glaives/halberds etc are far from slow weapons that media portrays them, especialy games are awful about this, Only reason why you can t stab fast in games is balance, there would be literaly no reason to use any other weapon otherwise, except ranged weapons. Swords and other onehanded weapons were sidearms, like pistol novadays, easy to carry and useable in close quarters like city streets, Anyway we should be able to pick up polearms in the game and maybe tie it to the horse as way to store it? TLDR: 4m long PIkes might be unvieldy in 1v1, but 2m spears and other shorter polearms would beat swordsman 90% of time on openfield
