Whats the deal with spears / ''Polearms'' ?
I want to have a weapon that i can stab with while on a horse, Like a lance. i know those arent in the game, so i wanted to have a Spear. When i look up spears online, i read that all of them ''cant be wielded''. Whats up with that? Theire in the game but i cant use them? If they ARE usable, what are some locations where i can get one?

You can get them from guards and random encounters, you can pick them up and use them (they do have a high strength requirement IIRC) but you can't sheath them. So you are constantly carrying them in the hand. They are fun on horse and make mounted melee combat a bit easier.

There are bandits and Cumans that carry them. When they drop them, you can pick them up and carry them. But you can't put it into your inventory and if you draw your sword or bow, you'll drop the pole weapon. It can be used on horseback though.

Edit: oops, too late. :)

I guess same method we use to pack multiple full swords and long bows in it. Although if you watch Youtubers there's a few methods of carrying polearms that would be possible to do in the period although no evidence of it being done.

I think it would make sense if we could have one in a camp for use during the battles at least, they should have some camp followers and a cart of two to help out.

yea i hoped nobody would argue that XD sure you're right, but the line had to be drawn somewhere.. halberds did not cut it, for reasons.. some of the reasons should be gone/overcome in WH and we may see evolution of halberds in next game.

Polearms were originally meant to usable in-game but the devs abandoned and removed them from the game as trying to get the polearm melee combat to work proved tricky.

There are mods I have installed that allow for the use and storage of halberds but I barely use them as they're OP and the melee combat is atrocious and unfinished. Fighting with one of them basically consists of stabbing frantically or slowly swinging the heavy thing and depleting your stamina very quickly.

Edit: No combos or master strikes either.

Yeah they have a good base for it to be expanded upon and hopefully would open up more options in combat and help to fix some of the issues with it currently.

If you use the pointy end is that a verbal assault?

Just get the mod on nexus that basically adds them into the game properly. Also has its own skills you can pick

Look, polearms were never meant to be 1v1 type weapons, they were best used in massed formations like the phalanx, square, or schiltron. There's a reason they are slow in game because they are very long and ungainly against just one guy.

And fast and nimble swordsmen were one of the counters against pikes, like the rodeleros of the famed Spanish tercio, because once they got in close, a guy holding what is essentially a very long tree limb was highly vulnerable to small, sharp pointed objects during close-in combat.

Next time you're up against a pikeman, take him down with a sword, any sword will do. You'll see what I mean.

The deal with polearms is that they are unfinished content. There is actually even a hidden stats bar that levels up as you use the polearms. There are no combos or perks to be had which suggests that they intended for it to be a weapong to be used often, but didn't finish so they made it possible to temporarly wield, but not something to put in your inventory to discourage usage of the weapon. It seems like a trick to keep them in the game unfinished.

That is exactly what happened yes. I think they tried to use a variation of the longsword mechanics for polearm but couldn't get it working for some reason. The opponents don't seem to block when they are using a polearm and they some times just stand there like a Vitruvian Man whilst the game tries to calculate the AI location.
