Instead of immediately venting your frustration, take a breath, say your mantra ten times and then try to imagine how many people there are who have played this game and gotten through the intro, and went on to thoroughly enjoy KCD.
Now ask yourself--"Is it me or is it the game?" Whatever your answer, it doesn't reflect well on you.
It took me more than a dozen tries to make it to safety.
Stealing armor too - can't stay longer in armory than 10 sec because soldiers hear you and see through the walls because armory is restricted area [and again it repeats later in game, empty house but everyone know you are lurking inside]
And first lockpicking training with Miller Peschek we have after we did our first burglary .
So yes, beginning in this game is a bit too short.
I too found myself at the wrong side of the law because I attempted to murder Kunesh at full view of a guard who started chasing me around, got sent to jail and died there.
But eventually I learned to appreciate the slow pace of the game at the beginning and I'm sure you will as well if you take your time with this game. As for escaping the Cumans at the beginning, it's not that hard if you let your horse rest a bit. Don't force it to sprint even when it's exhausted because it simply won't and you'll be shot to death.
Also if you ever become accustomed to normal mode, I recommend trying hardcore. The lack of quest markers and combat markers is a bit annoying at first but you get used to it and learn to appreciate the more realistic gameplay.
Henry is a teenager. He knows nothing...like most teenagers...and he has no skills. Zero.
Once you make it to Talmberg, there is no time constrain and no one trying to kill you.
Most of us rush out to do quests and so forth. But there is no hurry take time to explore.
And most of all, think. The whole game is a puzzle--practically, mechanically, and even ethically. It's a challenge. For you to solve...or not.
That's what a good game should be.
And yes, the horse part would have been nice if the game had paused for a moment so you could read the instructions instead of a popup in the upper right corner while you're getting attacked left and right... but eventually you escape and can breathe again.
Over all I think it is a very good start because it really makes it clear that you'll have no chance against any skilled fighter, let alone a war hardened cuman, without propper training and leveling a few skills.
So like the others said, take your time and I hope you'll enjoy it just as much as we all do.
It's actually quite simple. First off make sure you're not overloaded while trying to run. Get on that horse fast. After that, simply put her on cruse control. She knows the roads on her own. You just have to get her to giddyup as often as possible. The only time you have to 'steer' is at the left turn to Talmberg.
Again - take nothing but your sword, don't even look at the Cumans and let the horse steer herself. Just get as much speed out of her as possible.
AS for stealing armor in Talmberg, when Bernard wakes you up in the night telling you to come to the wall, there's your chance to rob the place. If you miss that chance, go at night and check how much noise you make.
You can also just make a run for it and sweet talk the guard in the town itself; doing it at night you can stealth past them if careful. Do it right and he let's you go. Orrrrr............... get thrown in jail. They'll chuck you out of town then lol.
Stealthing past the Talmberg town guards at night would be a neat trick, since time stops at noon that day until you escape. ;)
Cumans run from me now. It's actually an issue.... I have to get my dog to chase them and take them down. My my how times have changed. Only gangs in plate give me issues now. Early in the game ? Ha ha ha...... I'd get ripped to shreds by a few raggedy goofballs in the forest armed with clubs. As people keep on preaching - it takes time to gear up and get your skills up. Which makes it worthwhile.
I did it while supposedly guarding the wall at night after Radzig rides by. Wanted to prove that it was possible. It was. Easily. However, I reverted to an earlier save as I wanted to steal more stuff first. Then I knocked out the guard, escaped thru the moat in daylight and talked to one of the guards patrolling the town. He let me go. Alternatively one could go counterclockwise around the castle and head to Rovna that way.
The devs have given us multiple ways to pull this off, because it's critical that we DO pull it off.
I'd say stop considering and buy it, imo you can't do anything wrong, guessing you're here to check out if it's still buggy or something? Because sure, there are still bugs and armor clipping and what not, but it is still a great game too.
I certainly can get the hate since it comes as a complete shock, but the more I played it the more I understood how necessary it was. This is a hardcore game even in normal. This is old school in style and something that is completely different from most modern games so that intro does a good job at indroducing you to the game. It lets you know what kind of a game in a very blunt and upfront way.
Stay with it and be slow. Also DO NOT TALK TO NIGHTINGALE UNTIL AFTER YOU DO MORE TRAINING. i will not say more as that would spoil the game, but that is one of the points where you actually get a string of quests that do have time constraints. And with how this game is, if you do not actively do the quest the quests will be done without you if you do not persue and training up your skills is an important part of the game. There is no indicator in the game that you will not be able to train after that trigger until after a certain point in the quest line which can be way too far. Many of you know what I am talking about, but I will not say it here since I do not wish to spoil anything. Just remember the name NIGHTINGALE and once you see him that you should stop moving forward and take that time to train if you would like.
