Can I still do the quest Dead men tell no tales when Black Peter is dead?
This is my first play through, I was in a tournament and then it got cancelled because Black Peter was murdered. I don't know who is he so I went and look him up and now I wonder: will the Dead men tell no tales quest still available? Whom will I meet now in the final round when the champ is already dead?

Yes it would still be available. But a dialogue option wouldnt be available due to you never fighting black peter when he ambushes after the tournement because he died before hand. . But you could still complete the quest. Youd get a crappier ending for the quest.

If black peter isnt in the tournament due to being dead before you completed the tournament once. There will just be a random npc as the 3rd opponent instead of black peter.

I think it was caused by my doing that blacksmith quest before I won the tournament. WHen I was doing the quest it said I failed at the end. Then days later I tried winning the tournament and this happened. When I was doing that blacksmith quest I had no idea what I was doing and that it was related in any way to the tournament. I dont know what I did to fail it, but it said I failed and then the quest was over.

I think that is the trigger. If you want to see it happen, try doing that.

I don't doubt that's true. It just never occurred to me to do the blacksmith quest out of turn. I don't think I ever saw it in the quest log until after the tourney and him confronting me on the road.

How did that come about? I was under the impression that it was triggered by Henry killing Black Peter himself.

After looking over internet at the time, it seems like you can only enter the tournament after starting the quest. However, I was able to enter the tournament days after I got to Rattay, very early into the game, and to some it's considered a bug. I'm not sure about that part, but the fact is I was never accept the quest before nor after (no dialogue option) BP died next to the ring.

Well, I went to the Herald and did the option to wait there until the next tournament. This is after Black Peter died at the tournament by being murdered I suppose.

I played through the tournament and had to face him at the end, so apparently he was reincarnated! Anyhow, I lost to him because he beat me 2 out of the 3 bouts. I can try him again. So winning the tournament quest can still be accomplished.

If you had Black Peter die next to the ring like I did, try waiting with the Herald until the next tourney. It worked for me.

The Dead Man's quest for the tournament can be done one of two ways by design;

You can enter the tournament without visiting the Samopesh smith - once you defeat Black Peter in the tournament AND at the ambush, you can visit the Samopesh smith at any time in the future and run through the dialog, with the last dialog option completing the quest.

OR-

You can visit the smith first, then go and do the very next tournament, defeat Black Peter twice, then again, at your leisure, go tell the smith all about it.

The nice part is that there is no longer any 'order', as you'll trigger Dead Man's quest in either case.

It used to be that the tournament didn't trigger until you visited the Samopesh smith or Hans Capon, as he also has a quest for Henry and the tournament. Now, the tournament independently starts about 7 days after you visit Rattay the first time, I believe, and there is no requirement to enroll in the tournament, it just cycles over on its own schedule every 7 game days.

Apologies if y'all know this stuff already, but I thought I'd lend some verification to the experience.

God be with ye.

Good info. Im not sure what will happen with the smith quest now. I had already entered the tournament a couple of times and lost before I met him and started his quest. I did some thing for him, cant remember what, and then I got a message of how I had failed his quest.

quest.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but I received Dead Man's quest from the smith a while ago, I haven't done the tournament yet, and now thinking my options. Is it necessary to do the very next tournament to prevent Black Peter dying too early, or can I stall it and do it few weeks later? I'm doing whole different questline atm. and I really would like to continue it for multiple different reasons.

I actually have never missed a tournament after getting the smith's quest, so it's a good question.

I *think* that the quest progression doesn't trigger until you enter a tournament, but this is just a guess. One thing you can watch for is a quest failure notification specifically for Dead Man if you miss the next tournament, so you might want to check your quest log to be sure you haven't failed it. If not, then you *should* be able to skip the tournament until you're ready.

Let us know what you find out.

I will test it today. I will wait for the tournament and wont participate to see if the Dead man's quest fails. Then I will wait for the next tournament to see what happens when I do participate. Luckily I'm using unlimited saves, so it's not a big deal, I just wouldn't want to tackle the tournament yet.

Good idea.

Okay, so here's what I experimented: I waited 4 days for the tournament to start, then I waited one more day for it to finish. I got 'failed' for the tournament, but not for the Dead Man's quest. I waited a week for the tournament to begin again. and Black Peter was alive for the last battle. Otherwise cool, but the last fusking hour of the clock is so slow. :BEsurprise:

I went back and won the tourney after Black Peter died at ringside. So it can be done. Black Peter is reincarnated to fight you.

Wow, so guess its the hardcore mode. Peter just came back and tried to kill me on the road. He succeeded the first time because the poison got me. I came back and got him the 2nd try and never got poisoned.

Ive not even seen the executioner. Never did find him. Ill have to look him up.
